When a friend who runs a lab, I borrowed from a calibrated digital thermometer with probe and came in various measurements to the following conclusions:
1. Hot water from the tap:
Digital thermometer (calibrated) 52.6 ° C
Infrared thermometer: 52.3 ° C
Difference: -0.3 ° C
2. Freezer
Digital thermometer (calibrated) -25.7 ° C
Infrared thermometer: -25.2 ° C
Difference: -0.5 ° C
3. Boiled water after 5 minutes cooling
Digital thermometer (calibrated) 82.5 ° C
Infrared thermometer: 81.9 ° C
Difference: -0.6 ° C
4. Measurement surface of the skin at the back of the hand
Digital thermometer (calibrated) 34.7 ° C
Infrared thermometer: 34.5 ° C
Difference: -0.2 ° C
Deviation arithmetic mean of: - 0.4 ° C
In the laboratory sector like such a deviation not be portable, in the private scope definitely. I use the thermometer for example also for brewing beer, where it is necessary to insert at certain temperatures so-called "Snap". Here I feel the infrared thermometer to be extremely useful, as it allows a clean measurement. That the thermometer displays tend always a little less, I consider the household to be negligible, and given the price range, the device delivers excellent measurement results.
