So now here are two Dell U2414 side by side on my desk. Unfortunately revision A00.
This revision should not:
- Monitor via switches on or off.
- Often change the input source between miniDP and DP.
Why this? Simple: Because the quality assurance of Dell apparently was on vacation when the firmware was tested. If you switch the monitor off and then on again, it may happen that the input signal is not detected (screen goes into standby). Leaving aside the finger from the on-off switch, there are no problems. The same problem also occurs often times when switching between inputs (In my DP and miniDP). Time there is allegedly no signal, another time then no EDID data which then leads to a permanent resolution of 640x480 (at least via Daisy Chain). Ugly and everything easy to find fault. How can you ignore something like this?
Now we come to the positive aspects:
- The Panel: Bold colors and contrasts, both monitors and the same calibrated (in other reviews was spoken of color differences).
- The design: Real chic parts, see also next to my Macbook Pro well, as if they can include: :-), although the foot is made of plastic, it does not look like.
- The USB 3.0 Hubs work without problems, very handy for the Macbook with the few USB ports.
- OSD: The OnScreenDisplay has many settings and has a nice gimmick, a power consumption display.
- The Thin Borders: Prefer not to miss, you get used to it in multi-monitor operation.
Conclusion:
If those annoying error would not be in the firmware of things, monitors are excellent for its price. Hopefully Dell improved since times after!
