Of course I have, because I am so pleased with the MX, resorted to G400s, the successors in the second generation.
The product design is absolutely identical externally to the MX518 refresh, only the surface is now matt and no longer smooth. In addition, the colors are different, as anyone can see in the pictures. However, the USB cable is thinner (see. G400 [without s]). Since this often led to broken cable, coming at the G400s at the entry point into the mouse strain relief for use. This should prevent the cable break at the location. Still, I'm skeptical: Why not use them for a few cents more, the proven cable, the MX series, from the perspective of Logitech?
Now for the very disappointing point: The right mouse button. The pressure point is terrible if you're used to the MX500-518. He is slightly spongy, also has the right mouse button game to "click threshold" and thus feels limp on.
The mouse wheel rattles more and is not running as "soft" as the MX518.
Overall, the mouse feels when you hold in your hand, simply processes cheaper compared to. This does not mean that it would be really poorly finished. But compared simply bad. Not as if it holds more than 5 years.
The G400s now has up to 4000dpi sampling rate, although it has no laser sensor. Since I generally dislike the disturbance-sensitive laser sensors in mice, I find that just right. While playing with 4000dpi I noticed that my movements were recorded somewhat more precisely than in the MX518.
Because of course I could not test the long term, I wear to when is possibly going a little too fast break. Let's hope that's not necessary.
Thus I summarize:
+ The mouse now has 4000 dpi optical sensor
+ Perfect shape for the hand (for right-handers!)
+ Pleasant surface coating
+ Edit: I forgot to mention that I can not hear squeaking, it's also not a laser installed ...
- The cable has not been back thicker despite known problems, but it has "only" (but still) added a bend protection.
- The key, in particular the right mouse button are spongy, do not feel as accurate like in MX, although it has also been criticized in the G400. Here Logitech has thus not improved.
- Also the mouse wheel sounds and feels worse.
Conclusion: If you 60 outputs for a mouse of a rennomierten Swiss manufacturer, and the product gives the impression that this is resting on old achievements, and sold inferior products for this price, you have to happen very strange as a customer.
I have long wondered whether I should be three or four stars. Since it tends rapidly to assess the product to bad if you have been disappointed, I have opted for four stars. Although this mouse is compared to their old "brothers" worse in some respects, compared to the whole market but it is really to be considered as well.
Only I would give Logitech advice: Take next time a few cents more in the hand so that you get the last star. Maybe see austerity measures look good on paper, but as you can see, the image suffers. Whether it is worth the price, I doubt it.
I would the mouse as long as my MX518 still works, do not buy again but prefer to use the MX when the G400s breaks. And hope that Logitech in the future perhaps resumes reason.

Addendum 12.12.2013: The silver G-logo dissolves partially. The minus on the button and the printing on the button in front of it are barely recognizable. In the MX518 has a longer sustain.

Addendum 30.04.2014:
The mouse now looks much better than my old MX518. From the logo of the paint has flaked, key labels are partially completely gone. And I've changed just because of appearance.
After problems in shooters I have now again my MX518 Refresh in operation (yes, precisely those who now threefold cost of the 400s and mind is old, but where nevertheless all the buttons are still clearly legible after years of violent strain) and score suddenly flawless results.
The MX518 I have previously screwed and cleaned. Can It occurred to me that I all microswitches or the cable, should something which break easily replaced himself / repair would.
From a purely external (The upper shell of the MX I could indeed see from the inside) are solely the mouse buttons on the MX518 front already at least twice as thick as that of the 400s. It also seems as if you were with those of side buttons have swapped compared the micro switch the mouse buttons, because the pressure force that you have to muster refr each vice versa as in the MX518. is. On the right and left mouse button you have to press 400s less in order to trigger a click while you have to press harder on the side buttons. So you press not so easy to accidentally on a side key (which I personally incidentally never had problems), has at the same time at the much more important right and left mouse buttons respectively a less precise feeling for the clicks.
Hopefully my MX518 holds through even the next 20 years, to my fancy has passed on playing, so I will not again as pure case.
Unfortunately I have to demote to another star, the G400s for such a poor quality with respect to the outer materials. If I had known how quickly she looks so worn out, and especially how bad I can cope with it (and after nearly a year you can not seriously argue, I would have tried not good will and would simply not accustomed too), I would have never bought. Meanwhile, I would also attract other manufacturers into account, because the unique selling point "quality" Logitech has definitely not shown me in this product.
