Update: I recommend iPhone and iPad users to use the official widget. The waiting times for starting the app accounts and the delay in selecting scenes is, for whatever reason, minimal - significantly lower than in the app.

For several months now, I use the Philips Hue system. Bought it was out of curiosity and my enthusiasm for technology. The saving idea (LED) therefore did not play a primary role for myself first.

Networked everyday objects might be a gimmick for some, but I was always looking for more comfort.
Hours of research went my Philips Hue buy previously. Justified, because after all, it is a rich price demanded for the Philips 3 "pears". But the fact is that currently no other system has proven effective and may be at least the same amount as the said lighting system, more to this soon.

What would you like to have?

+ A starter with 3 LED bulbs
+ A base station, the soganannte Bridge, which connects directly to the router and is necessary for the control of lamps.

Each bulb has a brightness of about 600 lumens, which corresponds to a luminosity of a 50 watt bulb.
So you can imagine it figuratively: A room (courtyard with little sunlight) with 22 square meters, 3 pears are more than adequate. But this of course is highly dependent on the selected scene, so cold, white light colors offer a significantly higher luminance than example warmer yellowish color. So you have to assume that colors such as blue, red, etc. are to be used rather than voting Mung light, because they are quite weak by the luminosity with several light sources per room.

But what are the Voteile of Hue system?

+ With the Bridge, up to 50 additional units Hue are driven. Meanwhile, there are some various units, ranging from the famous Living Color on Light Strips (LED light string) etc.
+ IFTTT - "If This Then That" - connection: The many, many possibilities. To cite just a few examples: Flash the lights when I get a new email. / Lights can be purple when it starts to rain. and much more.
+ Alarm Clock: I let myself every morning wake up from a simulated 18 minute sunrise. (It's really amazing how relaxed you wake up, believe it or not!)
+ Timer: Depending on how long I want to read in bed at night I set a timer and let slowly dim the light in 20-30 minutes. A positive side effect for comfort: Promotes the formation of the sleep hormone melatonin)
+ Various other apps: Philips offers a model here legally an open interface to so that third developer can write your own programs for the Hue system. There are now a good number of such apps, some with the same features as the Originalapp, but partly also with an entirely different focus (for example Hue Disco)
+ Geofencing: If I leave the house, the lights go out, I'll go back automatically. A truly enormous practical function, especially for people who often times forget to switch off the lights from stress.
+ Each lamp itself acts as a kind of a mini router, which is especially handy if you're not anywhere in the house a good wireless reception but still has the system wants to use Philips hue.

What's not so good?

- The app has a noticeable delay in the selection of scenes. No second, but still noticeable. Add to that the time it takes the application to start.
- Some colors are not displayed beautifully. For me, therefore, the colors green and turquoise are useless.
- You switched on accidentally from the light switch and then on again lost the previously selected scene. (Especially the beginning, it happened to me many times, because of habit)
- Price: Philips knows that they are currently the market leader and it shows on the price. Contrary to many Meinunungen, the price of 200 EUR would be significantly lower soon he considers himself still stable. Also additional lights Philips can unfortunately pay dearly.

All in all, outweigh the positive aspects of this system, I am excited about the possibilities and look forward to future new features for me. I even like it so much that I'm going to buy despite my criticism Price more people. Therefore it can be said that Philips has done everything right with this system.
