It says Windows 8 but it is actually very vague: We're on Windows 8.1, it seems that only 8 designation includes the Windows family. but it depends also on the hardware compatibility, hardware, with Miracast standard technology. This sub hear hardware rather relatively new.
Personally, I knew this product before its availability in France and was waiting but no devices on which I have been testing is compatible without that I could find the info anywhere:
On a desktop Intel Core2Quad 9555 with Windows 8.1 runs very well. Apparently this older CPU generation should not be compatible Miracast: Can not install one screen at a standard WIDI (wireless) above, the option is not even proposed.
On a Surface RT (1st generation, released in October 2012), with Windows RT 8.1, same lack of options and an inability to install WIDI screen. Yet an application dedicated to the Wireless Display Adapter exists on the Windows Store and is even supported indicated ARM CPU and thus Windows RT. The application starts correctly but is not fit and prompts to install WIDI screen.
After searching on forums, it seems that the area 1 (Windows RT) is not compatible. It appears that the surface 2 is the (even with Windows RT) and all Pro surface (1, 2, 3) are satisfied.
For desktop computer, it seems to be only Intel CPUs from the Haswell generation that is consistent with this standard Miracast standard.
These information are not easy to find for the common users, and it is very unfortunate that Microsoft does not communicate about the subject because many people may not be able to enjoy this Wireless Display Adapter, a great product, at extra provided you have the latest hardware ... And otherwise this can be super frustrating.
