Hello to facilitate your purchasing decision, I will not repeat in this review the posititven characteristics of the camera again, but only list what I noticed negative and how to compensate for these negative traits (first: not out of the camera can be compensated but only eg Photoshop).
I know myself pretty well with photography and cameras from (I think this is my 50th camera since my children early ...) and was therefore perhaps a little put on this camera other claims than usual:
In what I am not interested:
Ease of use (you get used to everything)
ISO performance beyond ISO200, minimum ISO (here 80) is relevant to me
Any intelligent automatic functions, scene modes, or even 'internal image enhancement' (often seen after plastic surgery worse than before). Luckily still, almost every camera (even this one), at least not a 'stupid' Programmed AE, which does not try to be smarter than the photographer, but in most cases (zuminest at low ISO values) to open aperture (90 % open wg. low light intensity lens) set the appropriate shutter speed. Open Shutter is important because here the focus of the lens (not to be confused with depth of field) is highest (keyword 'beneficial Aperture')
Rash Look for this camera was (as always-this camera, I mean bigger does not always take):
1) image quality ...
2) picture quality ...
3) image quality ... grins
4) Extremely compact
Nice to have feature:
no proprietary charging system, but for example via standard mini or micro USB
First of all: the Samsung ST60 (just as it did earlier Samsung Digimax S500) provides reds are so garish and overstated that must be corrected via image enhancement so that not every red looks like a severe sunburn. The saturation control to -2 (or other internal camera settings) helps nothing.
In Adobe Photoshop you have, for example, the red channel (and only this) edit as: Saturation -20, Lightness -15 ... then the picture looks somewhat natural.
Ergo: colors (here red) deficient
Sharpness: The picture sharpness over all focal lengths (and therefore also the beginning apertures) and image areas is excellent and rattenscharf, not my Panasonic, the better (although the image of all my Panasonic's overall more harmonious and natural look, here no post-processing on the PC is in extreme cases necessary ).
Noise and Verschlimmbesserung (structures smooth iron) through in-camera noise reduction: the Samsung ST behaves in two points exemplary: no noise, no excessive Verschlimmbesserung (texture loss) by noise reduction.
Compactness: Yes, it is compact and tiny, very good
Standard USB port: no, contrary to some opinion here has the ST60 is no standard USB port (mini or micro), but a proprietary form, so is the take-away of the Samsung charging accessories obligation.
Due to the positive properties relevant for me (sharpness and compactness), I almost keep the camera (because I always nachbearbeite each image, I would then also always corrects the extreme red on the PC).
But then I looked into the lens (concerns only hope my copy supplied): There are within the lens system various dust and particle inclusions, which are logically unfortunately can not wipe out ...
Tips to buy the Camera:
1) The default setting of the JPG quality is only 'fine' ... please put it out immediately on 'Super Fine', so that the photos are not worsened by extreme file compression. In times of cheap memory card, the file size should no longer play a role.
2) Sharpness, Contrast and Saturation (even if Last point does not really help, see above) set from 0 to -2, thus no longer inside the camera is still verschlimmbessert.
