My requirements for a new device:
- Larger screen / higher resolution
- Replaceable battery with high capacity
- Memory expandable with MicroSD card
(- Lower weight)
I get along very well with Windows Phone, it should again be a WP device, of course, with the current version (the LG E900 running with WP7.8). The hardware specifications and reduced the selection to a few devices that had ATIV S (and is) price can not be beat.
The processing of the case, the size is perfect (for my hands), the weight is very low, very good, since creaks and wobbles nothing: Unpacking the device was clear. So charging and switching on, the inserted microSD card (16GB SanDisk) was recognized correctly.
Display resolution and -Ausleuchtung are top, also here nothing to complain about. Wireless Setup lived simply, the performance is much higher as the LG E900, downloads from the Store are faster and also speed tests (the same access point, etc.) to show that here is more like the LG.
Stuttering or hanging applications I did not know well from my LG, yet the operation on the ATIV S "smoother" feels again on that much stronger CPU can here probably play their trump card. Also significantly better GPS reception, just under a cloudy sky / in the forest I had with the LG while running from time to time problems with the GPS signal. The ATIV S, however, is reflected by the external circumstances (so far) completely unimpressed, the GPS signal is available without interruption.
While the LG when connecting headphones (I like to run with music in the ear) still could be heard a slight "background whistling" is to hear about it with the same headphones while ATIV S nothing more. Very pleasant.
The Bluetooth pairing with my car (Peugeot 2008) also succeeded without problems, other devices I have not tested it via Bluetooth. The NFC chip seems to work, at least one test day has been recognized (with me any use of NFC is a mystery, so this feature is simply switched off).
The camera on the back makes in daylight usable images, well, let's say snapshots; in low light is rauszuholen not really much with the "Blitz". For video telephony via Skype & Co., the front camera is good for all, for funny videos, both cameras can be used. The results are of course far away from digital cameras and camcorders, but that's to be expected.
Last but not least: The battery life. The madness!
My LG was set constant at 2G and had at "average use" at the latest after 30 hours into an electrical outlet, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, I only turned on when actually needed so as not to reduce the duration even further.
The ATIV S is on 3G, WLAN and Bluetooth are permanently active and still wants to be fed back there after 3.5 to 4 days (!!) - I had really not expected, but it inspires me naturally. ;-)
Since each his smartphone uses different, is a typical "average use" of course, impossible or very difficult to define, for me, this means that write mainly news (WhatsApp, facebook), listen to music, a few phone calls, surf and daddeln a bit. Of course I did it, also managed during setup, if you have the device less permanently in your fingers to empty the battery within 24 hours ...
All in all, I am more than happy and satisfied with the purchase of ATIV S. A more than worthy successor to my LG E900 and worth every penny (which the purchase price in early December, when I bought it, still well below 200, - Euro thalers lay).
