After my previous cable speedo gave up the ghost, I needed something new. The cable bothered me for a long time and if they did, then please with GPS. But since I'm only occasional cyclists, the device should not be too expensive. Therefore, I opted for the "small" Garmin. The installation was easy. One of the two holders was easily fixed with the supplied silicone rings on the handlebars. The Edge still load quickly (was not necessary) and made the first practice round. Until the Garmin for the first time found the satellite, lasted about 2 minutes. But after that it is ready for action whenever you power in seconds. The display of the device can be seen very well in daylight. At night, I'm not driven and therefore can not judge whether it is the lighting displays around. The speed indicator varies quite strong, although the pace is even. That's GPS system-related and not really relevant to me. The variations were within the range of + - 0.5 km / h. After the first round I have loaded the data stored in garminconnect. That really impressed me. There I also planned the first track that I've driven a few days later. Here, the little gadget play to its strength. The "bread crumb" indicator is very accurate and reliable way to shows. Is a pity that the current speed or time is not displayed in this mode. For this you have to "scroll" through the individual displays. But after a short is not a problem. The biggest selling point for me is that motivates the device in conjunction with garminconnect, always trying new routes. Also, the virtual training partner is a real motivation help
The small Edge 200 is not a navigation device in the traditional sense, since it has no stored maps. One sees on the screen is not the environment, with roads or other POIs, but only the previously planned route. This also means that you previously having to think at the computer where you want to go.
Here is my conclusion:
++ Weight and handling ++ Readability of the display ++ GPS accuracy ++ Route planning + Battery life / charging time + Price + Virtual Training Partner + Auto-Pause o Speedometer inaccurate o configurable display missing
The Garmin Edge 200 can I highly recommend because it makes me more fun and more likely to get on your bike.
