I actually prefer Scan with fixed focal lengths, because the provide a clear contrast image. When I travel I use zoom lenses and this lowcost lens I am always amazed. The quality of the lens and the photos can not be beat for the price (99.49 in December 2013), in my opinion. Autofocus and exposure metering function properly over the entire focal length range. The quality of the photos can be over the entire area every wish and come with the image stabilizer as far less shaky shots out, as in the use of the AF-S 35mm 1.8g. Unfortunately, it does not provide the luminance contrast as the prime lens just mentioned, which I (midday sun or dense cloud cover) sometimes noticeable, especially in difficult lighting situations. The colors do but and the contrast adjusts the image processing again. However, the biggest weakness of the lens is the sensitivity to stray light and a lens hood is not included. In my opinion it is necessary, however, if you do not want to constantly have ghost lights on the backlit photos. Unfortunately this accessory (HB-45) is here at Amazon extremely expensive (about 15). The lens is very plastic-heavy and waived a seal on (plastic) bayonet, thus it is very easy and the workmanship is good, as I am now accustomed to from Nikon. The fact that for 100 no highend lens gets is close, but for the price since stunning pictures out, despite the small weaknesses. What you can use it only very limited, however, is for manually focusing. The thin focus ring provides the fingers hardly attack surface and the setting is not very fine. In addition, there is a risk to get his fingers on the front lens or to adjust the focal length. It's just a snapshot lens, what you better operates with auto focus and that's with the price and performance value to me the four stars. What I do not, however, do is to buy things from MM Photo-Discount. It was not in the original packaging, the warranty card was missing and the rear lens cap and the protective bag. Had to buy me the lid as well as the bag separately at Amazon, which cost me another 25. Too bad that I can not make MM Photo-discount into account.
