Customer Review

Well ... in the '60s it was the Beatles ... early 70s, the Who. Mid-70s were then Led Zeppelin the greatest rock band in the world. With Back In Black AC / DC provided 1980 successful rock album of all time from. Springsteen was the mid-80s ... until in 1987 came with U2 Joshua Tree and all at once the most grandiose and best were what the world had to offer at that time to rock music. Nirvana should come only about 4 years later .... but what made U2 when they were celebrated around the world, and that only they had a style to and was comparable with anyone? They did the right thing! You ändertetn their style and remained nevertheless U2! A further Pops a la Joshua Tree could bring out no other band in the world again. At least not at exactly the same music. So many good bands have copied themselves. But U2 have gone with "Achtung Baby" in exactly the right direction and almost able to build on their success of Joshua Tree. Sensational ... U2 were after 4 long years of "redefinition" finally back ... and how!
For the classic U2 fan of the 80s but the first notes of "Zoo Station" then appear very unfamiliar. A guitar as they do not yet know of Edge in the shape. But when Bono's vocals are you are immediately in the gallery there. The vocal effect is also something new, but certainly very interesting. U2 experiment like never before!
With "Even Better Than The Real Thing" Use is then again a little familiar ... a great song with a phenomenal chorus.
But at least at "One" is to be willing to let himself fall into the gloomy and sad Atmpospäre Album and supported by the music (or pulled down in a melancholy mood) to be.
"Until The End Of The World" begins with hard guitar and soulful yet powerful vocals and a beautiful melody. In a classic chorus but one waits in vain, but the song does not need that. As a small compensation he has not a small but very fine guitar solo from Edge. Wonderful!
"Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses" is more of a typical U2 song as he would have fit well in a slightly different form on an earlier album. Damn strong Chorus! Catchy and never goes out again ... never again ...
"So Cruel" sad song, depressive atmosphere, beautifully ... more is not to say.
"The Fly" ... what can you say great about this song? Well Edge's finest hour on the guitar next to "Where The Streets Have No Name" ... a magnificent reef, a hot groovy solo ... Bono's voice sounds wonderful / Its No Sectret At All /!
"Mysterious Ways" is one of the songs that only work properly for me on the album. On 18 Singles I had heard it already and am relatively quickly get tired. But since I have the "Achtung Baby" the song fits easily again. It's just not a typical U2 rock song like the others on the typical Best Ofs ... "The Fly" would have as little work on it ...
With "Tryin 'To Threw Your Arms Around The World" to the groovy songs wirds "The Fly" and "Mysterious Ways" something quiet and melancholy. Beautiful contrast in my opinion. The order of the tracks was chosen optimally by U2 on this album.
"Ultraviolet" begins very quietly and calmly and skillfully increases more and more. Made wonderful.
"Acrobat" has a pretty long intro (ca 45 sec) and develops rather quickly to a good song. However, "only" a good and not an exceptional song.
With "Love Is Blindness" this already düstiger, sad and melancholic album is completed deprissiv as it ever gets. / Love Is Drowning / ... / All The Secrets And No One To Tell /.../ Blindness / ...
way to end the album ...
and after 55 minutes and 30 seconds exactly thinks you hear after the primal times ... "Are the U2 ?? Are Joshua Tree, Rattle And Hum, Unfogettable Fire or Blood Red Sky just past?" and the answer I would answer with YES and that's a good thing! U2 were smart enough to evolve and are not stopped ... but remained nevertheless faithful to its own way. That will probably be the reason why this album as experimental by the mega-sellers Joshua Tree was so well received by the fans and has become one of the greatest, most monumental and important albums in rock music.
I can just pull my hat before U2, as they did with "Achtung Baby" two things. First, they showed how intelligent and clever they are. And secondly, you have become the latest immortal in this year ...
