I have chosen deliberately for the AF-D 1,4 / 50. Not so much because of the 2/3 stop more light compared with the 1.8 / 50, but rather because of the better feel. It fits then in addition to the build quality also purely externally better to my other AF Nikkor lenses D. The optical power I would call very well with such a bright lens. Shadowing and distortion are low in the 50s as expected. At full aperture the contrast is of course a bit weak, but because of the depth of field is a stopping down to 2.8 often attached. For Availablelightaufnahmen and for highlighting the aperture is 1.4 but serviceable. The classic bar Autofocus is after ultrasonic AF lenses others in terms of speed in nothing, since only a small and lightweight lens group to be moved. The filter diameter of 52mm (non-rotating) corresponds to that of other fixed focal length of Nikon. Using the Lens Hood HR-2 Rubber is recommended, as the 1.4 / 50 due to the larger front lens a bit sensitive to light sources on the screen with light reflections in the image. My conclusion: Who has the money to spare, should pick up the light stronger 1.4. Who wants to have on the D40 / D60 autofocus, must buy the new AF-S.
