The overall look of the product is excellent: Compact, lightweight, with a short cable two functions (loading and Connection via USB to the computer), super fast loading. I deplore the absence of a protective cover, but it is now well, the objects come to us bare to us to then buy the necessary for their protection.
Once loaded, I wanted to connect the thing to my computer and then I struggled. It really is not very intuitive for people like me, ie not specialists but not completely potted either.
The important point in my opinion it is the duality of use wifi / usb port.
Start with the most basic, usb port:
First ambush, the link given by the memorandum (which is limited to a few pictures and a few words) opens with an error message. We must look on Google WD MyPassport and there is good, you come across a fairly simple page, just select the product, then follow the instructions to download what it takes.
The passport will then appear where appear the USB key, it is used (open, sending documents) as it is. This ejects the same way.
As such it will be very useful for piling and save.
The wireless function seems very strange. To configure it you should press the on / off button so you can see the light loupiote wifi (blue), it is done alone or almost.
But where it gets very strange (to me at least) is that your computer connects to the wireless personal hard drive - and this instead of wifi!
It's one or the other is, but it's not both, what I find absolutely unsustainable, as I continually seeks one thing or another at any time Goog and Co .
(My husband thinks that there must be a way to connect to the router or other to set that ... yeah)
To use the application you must then go to computer and network: it appears clicked and an interface opens as the Internet (except that it is no longer available!).
This interface is not too much at first I like, I do not find neither attractive nor intuitive: to begin with a panel of photos videos appear, drowning the video that had been set to ensure that "it worked" (and yes, it works well, no problem of that side). We must begin with go to settings to choose the French (English by default), and then grope to the right and left.
I then tried to put the application on my phone (Samsung Galaxy Note 1): I was told that the application was not compatible. Which is a shame because I would have appreciated being able to send and just my photos and videos.
However my husband had no problem to install it on his phone (Arkos Platinium 50), he is satisfied.
In conclusion:
If I understood the advantage of this drive is to operate off wifi internet connection and allow simultaneous viewing of photos or videos on multiple devices, while being easy to carry around.
I fear, however tired very quickly discovered his duties end and Completion end up under-used, only giant USB key mode, loft-tote. (Yes, because if I bought this item for the holidays, reserving to understand how it works for them, the first day of relaxation would not have started under the best auspices!).
This is unfortunate because the wifi downloading seems to be a thousand times faster!
My reservations are that the device seems indeed likely to meet its promises, it is also well sealed, and reserved for very competent people, at least more than the average user I identify.
