SHORT VERSION
+ Allround Easy, intuitive, fast, many setting possibilities, practical features, stable. This refers to both the device and mount as well as the PC software for Updates 'Navigon Fresh'.
+ Very good maps (as far as I can tell, am of course not all 44 countries departed;))
+ There are now a software update to the now direct coordinate input is supported !! For camping enthusiasts there also the ADAC Camping-caravanning and Pitch Guide Europe 2011 for 9.95.
+ Custom POI can be play (eg. LPG / charging stations or everything Navigon can not offer itself to itself draufspielen and display on the map with individual icon).
- Touch screen has room for improvement, but absolutely acceptable range (sometimes does not recognize a "Touch" and you have to touch again)
- Otherwise really only the cable clamp on the bracket in need of improvement, but it is not bad or annoying.
Updates for maps Packet costs about 100 for a 2-year subscription and is therefore currently cheaper than TomTom with 80 for 1 year. Within 30 days after purchasing only 20 (-80%).
The Navigon 42 Plus is a really very fine Navi with great amenities! Absolute buy recommendation!
DETAILED VERSION
# What I like:
++ Legal intuitive operation, after a few times it has been's.
++ Standby option from the navigation system is quickly ready for use again.
++ Display automatically switches to night mode (light sensor).
++ Display brightness adjustable (some users complain about dark display, I think it's absolutely OK. You can send the device rotate / align that about sun or spot light does not reflect through the rear window on the display. This can readability of course affect slightly. )
++ Displays the current speed limit. You can set, from how much km / h is exceeded should be warned.
++ Warns of fixed radar stations (only in those countries where legally permitted - Updates charge, see below).
++ Suggests (if applicable) before up to 3 route options. The preference for fast or slower routes etc. is stored and highlighted in the 3 proposals with "MyRoute". All 3 routes can be displayed on the map, in addition the current driving time is shown for orientation.
++ Multiple destinations (route) can be planned.
++ Confirms whether toll roads (motorway, tunnel, passes) should be used. You can save, but that eg motorway should always be used it should always ask for tunnels.
++ Very simple and stable PC software for updating the map / the device. 1 click - Download and installation takes place automatically. Even if a large country Packet has (eg. Europe 44) you can select the relevant country with every update and download. Saves some time, but download is quite fast and space would be abundant.
++ Very good battery, for regional routes can ever resign speed charging cable. Through clever use of standby function even longer distances. According to the manufacturer it can last up to 3 hours charging time at enteleertem battery just 3 hours. In Standby he holds by a few days. Replacement battery I found for 17 (2012).
++ One can even play any POI. Thus, for example. itself (available online) LPG or charging station locations, vegan restaurants or similar individually important facilities that should not offer Navigon even play, (if it somewhere is a POI list in the Internet for the country concerned) and even with individual icon on the map display. For instructions, also there in various Internet forums.
+ Each quarter is a new map update (chargeable Update Service, see below) out
+ Sufficient internal memory of 4 GB, expandable through Micro-SD.
+ Significant voice announcement, adjustable volume (funny voices for download, some for free)
+ You can display your speed and altitude
+ TMC traffic jam warning. The TMC receiver is integrated in the car charger, and it must be so connected. Has already been successfully maneuvered me out of a jam and put me at my request over an uncongested alternative route home. Displays time loss due to congestion and time savings through the proposed alternative route. A very fine feature!
+ Storage and favorites shortcut key for home address.
+ Very stable and high-quality bracket with easy insertion and removal of the device. Cable clamp is in need of improvement (see criticisms), but does not interfere further.
+ Detected errors / changes on the map, you can record locally on the device and will be reported at the next port on the PC. Have so far but not to explore.
# I miss:
- The advertised Touch function is good, I am here, however smartphone technology used. While my iPhone has a capacitive touch screen, the Navigon has a resistive touch screen (see the different techniques: [...]). Specifically, I bemängle that not every contact is perceived immediately by the device, in rare cases, I must repeat times until it perceives the touch of two / three. Not particularly disturbing, the Touch function is however expandable.
- No way to purchase the latest map version for free to download (mine was six months old). For a 2-year subscription for 20 instead of 100! This makes up for it loose.
- At the holder can theoretically pinch the charging cable, but does not really work (does not get stuck). But it does not bother if you do not use.
- No protective bag it, but my sleeve for my external 2.5 "hard drive went well :)
# Not going I miss but NOT :):
- No Bluetooth / hands-free kit for your mobile phone no. (I speak here of Navigon 42 PLUS)
- Micro-SD card is not present / slot is free.
- Lean manual. There is a tutorial on the device! Man / woman needs but not necessarily both, you quickly learn by trial and error - is relatively intuitive :) everything.
# Prices for map updates in comparison:
Nearly 100 for 2 years (within the first 30 days after you received your device only 20 (-80%).
This gives 2 years each new update (every 3 months, so each quarter) for download.
Is therefore less expensive than competitor TomTom (February 2012) about 80 per year (1 year update service for Western and Central Europe in possession of a current card).
Update service of fixed radar stations (monthly update) costs just under 30 for one year (within the first 30 days after you received your device only 15 (-50%).
# DIFFERENCES TO COMPETITORS TOMTOM:
Alternatively, still standing at my choice, the TomTom Start 25 Europe Traffic. The differences between the competitors are unlikely to be large according to the description. The features are almost the same.
TomTom integrates with some products the bracket directly to the device, then no empty slot left behind in the car.
Map updates are cheaper than subscription to Navigon: 50 instead of 80 (according to TomTom website, access February 2012) at an annual rate, which Navigon offers 2 year subscriptions and TomTom Jahresabos.
One-time map updates are the same price, but the prices are so designed that man / woman may prefer the same for subscription accesses (around 70 each for the map of Europe with 44/45 countries).
CONCLUSION:
Overall, the Navigon 42 Plus should come priced lower than a comparable TomTom product. Compare possibly also the Update prices for tickets and radar with those of other manufacturers that interest you. In the long term make this represents the major cost! The quality and usability of the device itself plays when buying a crucial role, since you will be bound so long-term in mind.
I am very pleased with my choice and the device can really recommend it! Who Bluetooth (2.0) want to buy premium version.
