These books disappoint me more. Besides the heady feeling of deja read, here are some of the defects that have annoyed me World without End:
- All 10 pages sex scenes, and if the first Ken Follet were pleasantly sensual, here rape is the subject of an erotic treatment. Sounds a bit emotional release for lascivious old man.
- Caricatural and Manichean characters, which is all the more frustrating that the author once was gifted in that particular area. Kind allow themselves crucified without ever using the weapons at their disposal, indignantly rejecting any action that is not highly virtuous. The bad guys are very bad. They are plotting to trap more and more of them, unlike the Mark of Winfield. They are no longer shaken by contrary passions. They have more endearing side.
- Scriptwriting facilities (the frame is exactly the same as the Mark of Winfield or The Pillars of the Earth - and suddenly the question of readers who know the author is no longer "what will it happen?" But " How? ", which in itself and a shame. But besides the" how "is really sloppy in this latest installment, unlike the other two mentioned above. For example, 3/4 of the wicked are removed by an epidemic . Poof! Like that).
- Redundancy dialogues, situations, feelings of the characters, etc., which gives the unpleasant impression to read the script of a series of water of poor quality pink. For example and without plunder, the dispute between the lighthouse torque remains unchanged from beginning to end of the book. Nothing thickens or alters. The 19th stage of the book between the two of them could be interchanged without great damage with the 1st.
In short, if you want to discover this author, but read one of his old spy novels (Weapon to the eye, Rebecca Code), The Mark of Winfield if you want a historical epic The Third Twin or if you want a bit of SF. And flee his most recent productions.
