When all the contaminated corruption State & Government structure of the earth only half as much transparency would bring into existence as Boris Blank in each of its small sound miracle - we would have on this earth (almost) only exemplary governments.
I am already half my life Yello fan and you would think that I can knock sounds after such a long time no longer (completely) from the stool (my familiar) Yello.
But I listen to this archive pieces here and I work the jaw (once again) down, as if I would get degrees for the first time in my life Yello sounds heard.
I know of hardly any other Act, the musical pieces with a DERMAßENEN sonic transparency produces. When one sits up good headphones and then hires some piece of this CD, you enter at the moment truly a sound cathedral - a cathedral in the spatial sense, a room, a building with sounds ... and the incredible spaciousness of Boris Blank's music has a fantastic sonic transparency: no touch, no matter how small fragment, not a part, no details, no "instrument" is overlaid by other layers of sound, acts nix washy ... every note is crystal clear to hear and spatially locate and yet fits with all other sounds together in a self-contained sound ... and the bass (has always been one of my favorite ingredients in Yello universe) are so bold, voluminous, sophisticated - but at no time even begin to dull or boomy.
And musically, the techno tracks on CD No.1 all so punchy, detailed on rhythmic ideas, varied, full of worn sounds danceable ... that even I (I actually do not a fan of techno am) here at the end yet mutate to techno fan. The driving dynamics of these pieces with its urban flair, you can hardly resist.
And then there are of course the dramatic pieces, composed by Karl May to his interstellar travel ;-) ... songs like "Bosphorus" and "Cult Of Mirrors", in which you can hear almost as the imagination of the author directly way 1-to-1 transformed into an acoustic description of place, happening & scenery (just as Karl May's detailed sceneries only sprang alone his head ... with the "Bosphorus" could also be a Bosphorus on a distant planet here ) ...
These "film music" pieces: a trip through headphones. Many pieces of Boris Blank it's almost less "listen to music" rather than "experience".
CD No.2
On the second CD are as treat several tracks, which date from the Rote Fabrik and in some cases even before Yello saw the light of day. For Yello fans certainly times quite interesting to hear what everything was in those times of (unused) material or as a "Young Dr. Kirk" Intermezzo "Reverse Lion" was, etc.
But on the whole, & probably more interesting for collectors, especially (me) some of the pieces a bit too much like "New Age" sound and (I call it this) "sweet". But I personally was never a halt also sonderlicher fan of Boris Blank's "sweet" pieces (which were in my ears getting a bit too close to the kitsch and the beautiful way rarely make their way on a Yello album found).
I found the atmospheric, dramatic, film music-like pieces (such as the nameless interlude between "The Evening's Young" and "She's Got a Gun" or the "Indian Summer" at the end of the same "Oh Yeah" version) always terrific and goosebumps -mäßig ... just such a great, mysterious, melodic songs like "Moon on Ice", but also thickly applied, romantic songs like "Capri Calling" or dreamy stage plays such as the unique "Otto di Catania" and, of course, wide soundscapes & paintings as "Ciel ouvert" ... but those shallow, "sweet" pieces when Boris Blank is trying to nice, pretty interchangeable-sounding tunes that he mostly dunks (recently) in a sweet-sounding synth carpet (of instrumentals like "L'Hôtel" to all the ballads on "The Eye" or the pieces on the album MALIA) - that were never really my thing. And the 2nd CD is towards this kind of music (though here the charm of the 70's / early 80's).
Therefore, by me for the 2nd CD only 3 stars. Interestingly it is for Yello fans but all, only it tears me personally.
In addition, I had also expected other ... in the booklet of the album it is, it would listen to archive pieces from 40 years, from all phases Yello ... but I can on CD No. 1 by both the ingredients ago and concerning the sound hear only the phase from "Zebra" to "Touch Yello", while on the other hand the pieces largely sound on CD # 2 for me to Red Factory. Of the elements and concerning the sound I can (with two or three exceptions) no Yello pieces from the phase of "You Gotta Say Yes To Another Excess" to "Baby" hear ... and I had to a halt happy couple lost gem from exactly that stage - on a couple of extravagant, percussive "One Second" debauchery example or screened versions of fireworks such as "On the Run", etc.
Thus I 3 stars for CD No.2 and 5 stars for CD No.1 - and therefore as a mean total "only" 4 stars.
By the way, listen times "The last mile" and "The Time Tunnel" and then Alan Parsons Project's "I Robot" (1977) and Pink Floyd's "On the Run" (1973) to ... :-)
