This was partly probably because this occupation already 6 years ago a solo album of Gary Peacock grossed together, and one as even realized that you could well together. In addition, it was unpretentious enough despite all virtuosity, though free to interpret the compositions, but you never picking apart beyond recognition.
Impressively here especially the interplay between Jarrett and Peacock. Clear also Jack De Johnette contributes his mite to the above-average success of this album and in preparing a solid, partly playful ground, but compared to the other two protagonists, his game almost hear behavior.
The centerpiece is of course the 15 min + version of the Billie Holiday classic, God Bless The Child` which, although at that time was already present in several cover versions, but was never offered so fragile, so atmospheric and harmonious and at the same time inspired so. The slow groove is away felt by the whole number and in between there is even a short drum solo on the Johnette's - undoubted - genius then emerges. However, the other interpretations here are brimming with enthusiasm and ingenuity.
The great success of this album then also meant that there were several continuation of the Standards Trio, which were very good indeed all, but never again They sounded so motivated and inspired as to the first part.
Even sound that's a very excellent recording in which you are not only doing but imagines himself in the middle. This applies even more for the vinyl edition.
