Pictures print ok with just the driver, but They are a little dark and you cant really adjust it without the super bloated software bundle. You will probably want so photo printing paper for a better finish, just make sure you get LASER AND NOT jet paper, They are not compatible.
Pros
+ Uses standard letter size paper A4 or 8.5x11
+ Most of the core copy / scan / fax functions can be used without a PC or LAN connection (obviously you need phone for fax)
+ You can scan directly to a USB stick in the USB slot on the front of the printer
+ Laser toner doesnt dry up if you dont use it for 6 months :)
+ Color Laser Toner lasts for at least 700 pages (the cartridges did come with it) or more if you buy new ones (like 1600-1800 I think)
+ Its almost Well Compared To Other Printer * I * have had its almost
+ Multi-voltage 110V and 220V, standard computer plug
Neutrals
Its loud, but I dont think its really louder than any other residential Printer
If you leave it on it has a periodic check cycle thats a little loud if its in a Room That doubles as a sleep or living area
Its not small, pay attention to the dimensions if space is a concern
Cons
- You cant scan to a PC (I use mine Direct Connect via USB cable, Which doesnt work)
- You cant name a scan before you make it
- Photo's arent nearly as good as you would get from a jet style printer (they are ok, and They are only supposed to be 600dpi but dont think you will get high quality photo prints from this printer)
- No external loading drawer for a temporary paper type (envelopes, cards, etc)
I knew about the cons and I bought this printer anyway on special for 220Euro. I dont much print source documents, needing more for this Document Archive scanning and copying Basic Items like schoolwork book pages.
The Fact That I Can print a passable picture for my desk or for grandma is fine, but its not nearly what you would want if you were paying for a quality photo.
I'm not a "high volume" printer user, I print maybe 15-20 pages a month. Its really more than I need, but I needed a laser Because The ink in a jet is always drying out unused. I needed to be able to do high quality scans and make copies of receipts and the like. I needed dual voltage, and I had to buy a new printer anyway. This way the color was just a bonus, as All Those features I did need would have cost at least as much anyway.
