So, I've now spent the weekend with extensive listening, the new Steven Wilson as a limited edition CD has arrived two days before me. To say it straight away: I have long not heard nearly as substantial as this concept album and am again surprised that Steven Wilson manages to surprise me again and again with new, interesting ideas, themes or even sent interwoven quotations. The new album can be seen as a concept album as a complete work of art, and that's it. The individual tracks intertwine and create an overall impression which is quite overwhelming. And the story of a young woman, the lonely in the midst of a big city, anyway, or perhaps precisely because it is used the modern "social" media an issue where I can understand already that SW dealing with it, and thought power and thus the find subjects for his new publication. What I can within the hype about this new CD of SW understand poorly, are some really bad reviews, among other things, describe the music on the CD as a "gentle breeze", which was a success-oriented SW good doses prepared and produced for its market I think exactly the opposite is the case, Steven Wilson has remained true to itself, the music is by no means commercially, but rather aufrührend, uncomfortable, sometimes noisily, sometimes melancholic. In a well-known progressive rock side SW was accused to deal with the issue of isolation and anonymity in a metropolitan city, where only there were much bigger problems, for example in Somalia. (And such a nonsense then flows into an "expert" review a). Since I can only say: envy and jealousy are just no good guide and debunk the most part of which they go out, as what he is: someone should better write any reviews.
Hand. Can not. Errase. is so managed definitely that the work fits seamlessly into the sequence of the last three CDs of software, no worse and no better, special smart music of the highest quality. The CD may be somewhat rockier than 'The Raven', yet coming merger friends at their expense. A special highlight for me is the keyboard solo by Mr. Alan Holzmann (Regtet # 9), on which he sounds like Jan Hammer at his best.
I think it is phenomenal that there is now someone who writes music that is as sophisticated as the SW. He is quite alone. All the better that he has now become more successful and the not so goes to his head, he just looks at his sales figures, but concentrates on what he does, as what is probably no other: to compose great, complex music and absolute top musicians to gather that what he always think of new things, implement congenial.
