The idea with USB on / off I really like that it avoids a priori problems with the switching threshold as conventional master / slave power strips. Often enough I had in the past so that the PC problems, because the PC is very economical and requires little more than in Standby when idle. Thus so had some bar their problems and turned not always clean or off. The Gembird EnerGenie solves the problem with me reliable - printers, monitors, speakers, hubs, Label Printer etc - all peripherals now goes to directly to the PC and then the very reliable. There are problems at most when the PC is not switched off, but only in the Standby never goes (I switch actually starting because the PC so at night you can make automatic backups, install updates and video receives and any time is available within 3 seconds. My PC needs in standby but also narrowly 2W). Depending on the configuration, the USB ports can remain active and then the socket then does not switch off. In the case you have to adjust the power management settings accordingly so that the USB ports are switched off in standby. The relay of the bar is indeed audible in my copy, but very much quieter as all my previous master / slave strips and never interfere in the silent office, especially since it is only audible when switching on / off. The bar is fairly well made and the contacts look neat. It is delivered with a German manual and includes equipment insurance (Allianz) against overvoltage and lightning damage to 100,000 Eur. This will probably inspire confidence, though one must be clear that any surge protector in the form of a power strip just as fine protection, ie it can only limit the remains of a surge that is left over after a coarse and medium protection. Coarse and medium protection require changes or upgrades to the electrical installation - few households have. So you must not delude yourself, this socket would intercept a direct or nearby lightning strike to the mains. In such a case are broken bar and connected devices almost certainly.
