Customer Review

I have this device now for about 2 days in use and am excited about the immense range of functions. Of course, this phone is not a full-fledged notebook (though it costs nearly as much ;-)), but it's close.

The advantages in detail:

+ Form Factor: The mobile phone is naturally bigger and wider than normal phones, but this time the keyboard and the display is now owed. But it is very shallow, and thus "pocket-friendly", especially as a (simple) protective cover is included in delivery. This is crucial when it comes to the comparison with the notebook for me. Even a subnotebook or a netbook you have not everywhere. This phone already. The weight remains under, but together with the stainless steel housing it provides a handy and very "hydric" impression.
The keyboard is no comparison to the number pad in normal phones. While you can not write novels, I'm so but after a day already much fixed as with my old phone. The "Two thumb system" is the most efficient, but the keyboard is operated with one hand. The accuracy despite the really tiny buttons is enormous!
I use uA an SSH client on the phone, and just the special characters for often used are clearly fixed typed as "press six times on '*' 'with or whatever ... Unfortunately, the keyboard is not complete, it is missing, for example, Esc and Tab, but okay wanted now not program directly on the phone ... ;-)
The only downside is that many programs are optimized for normal mobile keyboards, and as certain numbers or '*' or '#' Keys (eg Google Maps). These keys are but here can only be reached in combination with the function key, since they lie with the letter keys.

+ The user interface is complex, but clearly and fix. I have previously used a Sony Ericsson phone, and had to get used a bit, but I already got it after a day. Elegant I find the solution for data connections that once an application wants access to the Internet, ask which access point you want to use (mobile or Wi-Fi) and automatically detects whether a known WLAN is within range and this offering.
I had interested me for some time for a Symbian-based phone, but have been put off by reports of sluggish user interfaces (but without even ever a had in hand to have). The new generation Nokia seems to have got this problem under control, the menus go at least as fast of hand as in S40-based phones. Applications, be they Symbian or Java-based load very quickly, almost imperceptibly.

+ Functions. The Madness. I have Office on your phone (okok for some like that indeed be normal or unimportant, but I think that's impressive). Quickoffice makes its name, even a complex spreadsheet (without macros) is loaded in no time and is (within limits) be edited without anything being destroyed! I think that's practical. Sure you can tap on the keyboard no novels, but at times just nachzutragen things in a spreadsheet you go. Really very convenient.
GPS is helpful if you lose time it takes the satellite outdoors in a few minutes, in buildings it does not usually. A useful Navianwendung is the phone but not with, but must be paid (see below).
The 3MP camera do in daylight ordinary images, but at night it roars mightily. But it is suitable for snapshots, and (thanks to the autofocus) for rapid photographing of table content or document (which is the "main application" of such a camera for me). The video function seems to have been artificially curtailed in order to create a "feature even demarcation" of the models of the N series. Is for me but also just a nice gimmick and hardly of value in use.
The Internet browser formats the pages to sent, so that you can read everything in the river. He also supported (within limits) Flash videos, the mobile version of YouTube is. However, some of my Lieblingswebpodcasts him overtaxed then apparently something, you can look at liquid only in the modem version eg ctmagazin the ... also pure audio streams functioned partially inexplicably. From full Web on your phone so you're still in my opinion a good distance away, but it goes in the right direction.
Some (actually compatible) .mp4 files that I downloaded did not work (sound went, image was black).
In addition, there are a plethora of helpful little tools (eg a search function that really through everything on the phone, Acrobat Reader, zip, ...) which I can not list here all. What is missing is often installed subsequently (although there may be problems below). I can not even close to try everything in one day.

+ Battery: The battery has survived in me a day constant Rödelei (WLAN, GPS ...), it is still about 20% full. It comes so easy for a working order.
I can now, of course, not provide "long-term studies," but if you leave the phone alone (aka Standby) he is likely to last very long. He has also just over 50% more capacity, the batteries in current mobile phones. Stop is also an advantage of the relatively large form factor: it fits a big battery in!

A few things I've unfortunately also to find fault:

- Some SymbianOS applications are currently not compatible with E71. These include Opera Mobile (Opera Mini goes!), And Fring. I could install Fring though (after me the phone already warned that the software to be installed is incompatible), but it crashed when I wanted anchatten an ICQ contact. The Skype-Login does not.
I think / but just hope that soon there will be updates to these programs.

- Nokia mobile phone sets with only older / limited versions of some programs.
Nokia Maps ("cards" in the English version) shows only the location at on the map. A guided navigation is only possible when buying (time-limited!) Licenses.
Quickoffice is the version 4.1.35.0 in but currently is the version 5, the (".docx" for example) also support the new MS Office formats brings that can not, unfortunately, the version 4 ... an update on 5 will cost again specially ...
It may be that the above things not everyone needs, but I find it quite steep even "pay later" to want, where I have added a handsome amount on the table already for the mobile phone. Nokia should ask if that's even the right way in the face of an impending "Mobile Linux". If it will be possible for Linux-based mobile phones Open Source software to install on your phone (Android sends his regards ...), one could look as fast stupid ... in the future, be sure the phones even more of the functional (ie must define the software), the hardware is indeed increasingly similar.

- The e-mail function I find a bit confusing especially with IMAP. Who has many folders get confused quickly. Since this should be just a parade discipline of such phones, I was a little (negative) surprise ... but it can be a matter of habit.

The scope of supply is ok, the standard accessories is (charger, headset, USB cable, 2GB SD card). In addition, as mentioned here also a protective sheath. This, however, is kept simple, it has no belt clip, but has the advantage that it does not stand out, and the cell phone in the shell is nearly as thin as without. It is also not transparent, that is, the cell phone can not be operated in the envelope.

Despite small drawback, of me 5 stars! As I said, I now had a day time to occupy myself with the phone. Also this is my first contact with a smartphone, it may therefore poorly compare. But me it completely thrilled!
