I have this box with 2xSat modules ordered to use it as a satellite twin receivers can.
The image signal in HD is very good and also very good for SD, but of course not as in HD, which should be clear. Other Linux boxes should provide a worse image SD.
I wanted to take this box to my Buffalo LinkStation Pro Duo (NAS) and from there, of course, the recorded playback. Until then, however, a twin receiver would have been enough with a large hard disk or LAN connection, what you can get for about 300 Euro of other companies in a very good Qaulität.
But what I wanted was to play photos and MP3s from the NAS over LAN on the Fersneher.
Images are transferred unfortunately only very slowly (compared to my connection via laptop, which has only 100 MBit about 5x slower!) And a decent functionality, such as the Windows Media Center is not available gegeben.Das Media Center, which does not is installed by default, is suitable for playing though it can be uncomfortable for large data volumes.
To set up the NAS I have quite a few forums have to search for hours, until I finally knew how to do that. One has a PC connection an entry in a file in the Configuration \ etc \ which "auto.network" means manually change (looks something like this: DM7200HD -fstype = nfs, rw, soft, nolock, rsize = 8192, wsize = 8192 192.168.7.14:/media/hdd/movie)
or on the (yet to be installed!) "Network Browser", which will then be found under Menu Settings System Network Network browser, set.
Well, I habs hinbekommen, many standing here with the PC at loggerheads user will fail, because I'm sure.
Now another important point of criticism: The remote control only extends about 3 feet wide, then closing and we must also aim well. Although I also have a universal remote control (Logitech Harmony 555), the TV and AV receiver also controls from 5 meters without any problems, the Dreambox which I control with this FB responded, only a maximum of 3 meters. It is therefore at the receiver in the device.
The raising of the Dreambox from the power saving mode (Deep Standby, 1 Watt) takes just as long as with a PC. From standby only a few seconds, but consumes 14 watts.
Unfortunately, the device is not the Standaerdbreite of hi-fi equipment, but is a few cm narrower.
For users for whom multimedia capabilities are important, I would rather have a silent PC satellite map recommend (HTPC).
This all sounds by a zimlichen nagging, but it should not come over.
The functionality of the normal Fersehen, listening to the radio, recording on internal or external hard disk is securely outstanding, the unit can not be heard, the design is beautiful.
But irgendiwe missing just still something and there's been nowhere in such a device, unfortunately.
Possibly programmed yes someone a very good Media Center, but I guess the processor power will not be enough to achieve the functionality of Windows Media Center or similar.

Update: Since I had no choice but to me a weekend with the "box" to deal with (ok, I could also return, but is not my style, after all, yes you can inform beforehand ...) have I now really learned a lot. I have now flashed the so-called Merlin3 image (that you simply loads from the Internet, file called Merlin 3.dm7020hd-20120115.nfi) and can then flash via LAN on the box. For this you have to switch on the box at the same time the back and front hold the other power button. Then in the OLED display an IP address is displayed. If you then enter this IP address on the PC / notebook in the browser, you can flash through the web interface the box. By Merlin3 image you can easily install the Internet radio provider LastFM. That did not go with other images.
When the update do not go, you can load the file "Dreamup" from the Internet and flasehn cable via USB to Micro USB.
Why am I writing this in such detail? For the normal user can see what he is doing here, or would like to do.
At first I did not know what is supposed to be an image for or how the flashes or plugins to install. Even without interen Fetplatte I can now take on my NAS.
Fast the whole thing would probably when my NAS the Linux filesystem (called that?) NFS would dominate. Unfortunately, the NAS only Windows CIFS can understand. As the box can not help it, I raised to 4 stars ;-). So if you plan to buy a NAS, buy one that understands NFS.
