We have even a safety fitting but the weakest link is the door frame with the striking plate.
So quickly had to be used as extra protection, but the more difficult the simple breaking clear.
So I came up with this additional lock Abus.
Since I am quite well versed technically I thought that the installation would not be a problem.
One ahead; so easy it is not.
The manual is a bit confusing for a non-specialist and need more accurate reading.
So I got me a Lochfräße (34-37mm) and a 13mm drill bit at the hardware store.
Otherwise, you need a 10mm masonry drill bit (for the strong wall anchors defined by the frame diagonally anchored the strike plate housing in the wall).
Also I had to adjust the backset of 60mm (standard) to 72mm, which is nearly impossible without snap ring pliers with me.
In short, for mounting it took me about 2 hours.
You have to work very carefully, because the mechanics else then causes problems.
I still have quite a bit of "fine tuning" (fat, files) to perform the lock worked smoothly.
Is it then once installed but makes it a very stable impression (it is pressure resistant up to 1 ton).
One has a feeling of security and the collapse is still considerably more difficult.
Update 31/12/2012:
Meanwhile, I have corrected my opinion, based on 3 stars.
I definitely have installed the lock properly and carefully.
Now it has happened that I have closed the Abus lock 2x when leaving the apartment.
Upon returning, I wanted to unlock and suddenly turned the key / cylinder into the void!
I noticed almost heart sank because I thought that the castle hangs, or does not open.
Thankfully the bar was so far back turned, the door opened.
Now I have tried dozens of times to recreate the situation.
The fact is; when turning back manually (2x) on the inside of the bolt snaps also 2x a noticeable and correctly.
On turning back the key (from the outside) it happens every now and then that the bolt remains approximately 5mm stuck in front end position.
Apparently the mechanics on interior and exterior reacts differently.
This may actually not be!
