This book made me discover the stories of Japanese women I had no idea, between the end of the 1st World War and the beginning of the second .It a universal story: the oppression of women, to men delivered , husbands without regard or respect and at the same time is the particular history of Japanese women, suffering the brunt of this clash of cultures, the East against the West, but always dignified, strong.
The style also makes it a sort of incantation: enumerations rather than being repetitive and lassntes are the peculiarity that gives this book its originality and truth, it is not the story of a woman but of all women .Double revelation.
