Certainly one can fault this album its commercial side "heard and rentendu" (the title "Natural Blues" and "Porcelain" clubbed our brains the year of its release being circulated in a loop on all radios and emissions musical, and even I could in addition to supporting these two titles). But you must admit, it is an essential album, whatever your approach to electronic music. This is an album that manages to marry all these musical styles, without being too biased and not too embellish the sound to caress the ears of young listeners - I am thinking of all the current music that is typically formatted (like those ubiquitous reverb used by the NRJ DJ entertainers in the 80) -. In contrast there was a very eclectic album that sounds especially "real", pure, expressive and with real emotions. Moby We feel that is a fan of these genres, they do not just cut and paste to and does not promote the atrocious effects of mixing to reach a maximum audience as some current artists (Rihanna, Beyonce, Ke $ ha?) .
Last News "Slow Down", "Everloving," "Inside", "Guitar Flute & String", "The Sky is Broken" and "My Weakness" are much more focused Ambient and New Age. The set is hovering and fabulous.
This album is a reflection of its creator Moby: a disturbing and intriguing UFO. Love it or not some of the many kinds cherished by the artist, one can only applaud the perfect mix of genres.
The biggest concern with the albums of the eclectic type, it scares away many purists. Pure room with fan and hard hate the title "Machete", very techno / electro rock / drum n bass (the title is reminiscent of those of The Prodigy), gospel fan does not necessarily appreciate the grass mixture blues rock / ambient title "Honey". Moby respects no standard and shows that mix tastes can happen to an excellent result, if one is gifted, talented, a good musician and open musically.
The only fault I have with this album is to use too many samples for background voice ("Wooba" on Porcelain or singing gospel on "Honey" or "Find My Baby"). Gospel real pieces we would have liked without this side "sample shameful". Played in a loop, these pieces can become VERY irritating. But again this is one of the specificities like "techno".
Personally I loved this album. I recognize a good album to the fact that the most interesting titles are not necessarily the best known and the quality of the songs is homogeneous (not the kind of album with "brilliant" bits and pieces "shit": here everything is good to take). Play is a CULT album. Listen to to make your own opinion.
