I have played both parts of his time on the PC and devoured the title literally. Brilliant gameplay, stunning story, characters and narrative style. Especially the comic Sin City film noir look has captivated me. Starting from the fairly good press, I thought that I can not go wrong ... but far from it.
The story itself is fairly ok and the technique or presentation also well done. With the control you need only times are warm because they - partly atypical or stupid is - in my opinion. (Cover on X, reloading on B, etc.) The character reacts quite slow in my opinion. The cover system is a disaster. Max is very "clumsy" and moves with the agility of a supine potato beetle.
As already criticized by other reviewers is the unbalanced difficulty. I play on the normal pump and partly a whole magazine into an enemy and he is still on, whereas I'm already dead after 2-3 hits.
Well, I think that you have a lot of "collectables" and also additional bonuses such as: Hit 25 times the bar. This gives the whole game incredible depth! Especially because you get nothing in return. It would have been really motivating when one says, Give 25 headshots and you will get 5% more life etc.
But what I really hate is when a game has me rushing permanently. It will probably still be ok if I longer than 5 seconds look at me a room. This is partly worse than cod. This has only just spotted Max Payne and not as a abgehetztes game.
But what an absolute no go for me now, are the videos and the permanent blur effects. Rockstar has overdone it completely. I get out of the game Motion Sickness because you uninterrupted Blur effects in the videos and partially in the game after taking painkillers. Then the Disco levels, colorful flashing all the loud music. I have the sound issued because the game has given me a headache without end. In any damn video sequence every two seconds is such a stupid effect. Yeah, we wanted to probably his inner conflict blablabalblabla capture alcoholism and play, but it's just too much! I could puke when a cutscene begins.
A small example of the botched gameplay and illogical events:
I drive up in a stadium with a freight elevator (?) On a tribune, there I will immediately attacked from all sides. My partner who has everything with a huge sniper rifle at a glance, of course, not fired and I can only times killing all enemies without coverage. As long as you meet the enemy not directly in the head, they can tolerate some more than 5 direct hits without flinching. Very realistic. The hit resonance is particularly great. I pike opponents counter, objectives precisely and give several shots, then on the second and third. After I landed and halfway have coverage, all the enemies are still standing, although repeatedly hit. Then I manage with great difficulty to kill it all, while my colleague with the Sniper Rifle provides useful tips, but no backing. After all enemies lying on the ground, I would like to collect the ammunition; far from it, because now has me at once an enemy sniper targeted. Where this comes from is a mystery, as is the fact that he only now shooting at me after I have all of his colleagues killed. But suddenly my colleague can also shoot and make it but just the other sniper shots deflect. AHA! For reasons of ultra-dramatic play events he is too stupid to him to kill so. So me is hardly any time to collect ammunition, I run ... well ... Max runs not, it moves like a grandpa to Kaffeefahrt (very realistic when you consider that the man runs away in front of a Sniper for his life). Finally run around the corner and I mainly in security, already lurks the next Superman from Sao Paulo and slams me off. Trial and error, so play all the shit again, and now that I know that in a very unfair place a sort of camping opponent is the whole problem.
The logic of history leaves much to be desired. I mean clearly it's a game, but sometimes I ask myself where the opponents always know where Max is and how many hundreds of soldiers are still sent. The soldiers are still better than the 5-shot-of-the-AK-in-the-naked-torso opponents. I have for example an opponent with the shotgun 3x shot in the legs from close proximity. At the latest after the second shot, he is likely to have no legs, but the soldiers in Max Payne are easy on again. The cocaine in Brazil must be a pioneer!
I know it's a game and I like challenges, then but please reasonable! It just is not fun when I think to myself with every opponent: Whoa what's that again for a waste!
Level design is also very believable. Soldiers get approached with an airport shuttle train. I bring all to (what else ?!) and take the train to the hangar ... prompt follow me a new shuttle train with opponents where this has materialized ago has not been clarified until now.
In addition, Max is very simple, so sometimes quite silly, a caricature of what he once was. Clear tablets, alcohol, etc. But honestly, Max seems like a special student, really stupid!
It is a complete mystery to me how you could produce such a waste of such a big game series.
