As a professional photographer I have been working with MF analog and digital. And I was rather unsatisfied with the digital picture quality for exhibitions, because that bothered me the flatness of the prints. The Sigma SD1, I had the same in their first appearance in the eye, but the high price put me off. The Merrill I bought immediately. Working with this camera is not easy at. Small inaccuracies such as exposure errors they do not forgive, saving the huge files is annoying long, the autofocus is not comparable with corresponding cameras from Nikon or Canon. For fast shooting the camera is rather useless. Working carefully with the SD1 Merrill is an entirely different matter. I work mainly with the 1.8 / 24 mm (which is older and in need of improvement), with the 8-16mm (for a zoom very good) and with the macros to 105mm (all a dream). The results are after the conversion in the Sigma converters as what to rework well in LR or CS6. I am always amazed. Deductions to 140cm I did in a brilliant quality, that can be described with crystal clarity and natural color. The SW-conversions in the new Monochrome mode are clear and clean in the shades; something I have never managed a lot of effort with other cameras and programs. My conclusion: The SD1 Merrill is certainly not an all-round camera. But they are of uniform digital world a new, interesting component which so far I like best. Sigma is expected to calm still a good 16's and especially a 24-stoking it, as they have begun with the great 35-ies. Then I would be perfectly happy, and perhaps would even my analog MF Fotografiererei drangeben. Addendum: have now a hervorvorragendes 1.8 / 20mm (after three attempts, much kindness from Sigma, thank you), with which I am completely satisfied. The 24-ies I have discarded it. An important point I would like to add: high contrasts can be personalized with the Merrill at 200 and 400 ASA received very well under control, I do not know of other digital cameras so. 100 ASA are then very good to use when the contrasts are up to "normal" to be called.
