My use:
I myself had bought me the Mivoc SW1100A as additional bass support for my existing stereo monitor system (for editing music and movies). My two nearfield monitors are already really good and go clean and quite deep down (according to the manufacturer up to 52Hz, which is very considerable), but the real felt by low-frequency signals (especially of course in movies very important; an explosion is similar only by the additional Feel the sound really alive) can stop but only with an implement designed speakers.
My goals:
Only for this additive (a sound source sounds from 120 Hz and produces descending is to locate only with difficulty from the direction ago, tones are deeper than 80Hz no longer be localized in its direction of origin, so a subwoofer should be set only up to 120Hz , is because you do not hear him and locate, but felt only in the room), I now wanted but not really spend a lot of money and then stumbled here on the Mivoc SW1100A and the consistently good reviews and have then also ordered it to me directly. The price was just too tempting. ;-)
THE PROBLEM:
In general, one must say that the Mivoc SW1100A is practically impossible to beat for this low price, but it comes from factory first but with a little too many frequencies thus making it locatable in space, which just absolutely not the purpose of a subwoofer is. This was indeed already been in the review of Rod (title: "Powerful bass, a lot for little money, use ONLY with Subout") noted. Unfortunately, I now had to find after purchasing that this subwoofer when it directly from the main channels (I, for example, use for the headphone output of my audio interfaces) operates and not from a dedicated Sub-out channel of eg A / V receiver, even frequencies far above the actual subwoofer for imaginary frequencies transfers. The built-in crossover is therefore to use, unfortunately, not really. Even if one turns this all the way down, so setting to the lowest frequency, come still far too many higher frequencies (even language is still relatively easy to understand, which simply can not be).
THE SOLUTION / My tip:
The solution to this problem then threw now, unfortunately again extras on this talking it but really in acceptable limits. I have now for (incl. Shipping) scarce 11, - Euro gained a very simple external crossover and this coupled with an additional RCA cables between the output of my audio interfaces and the input of Mivoc SW1100A.
The following crossover I've bought: bass control active crossover Subwoofer Level Volume Control
MY SETTINGS:
- On the subwoofer:
In my case, I have the "Level" control is turned up full blast because I Regulate the actual volume level that is output via the audio interface only via the Fader my audio software. Since I have my monitor system calibrated / calibrated with a sound level meter, the volume dial of the audio interface are themselves set in a fixed position and are therefore not used by me to regulate the volume.
Turn the knob "Crossover" I aligned with its mark on the letter "C" of the word "crossover", or a klitzebißl below, so the left past, the mark below the letter "C". This should then rule of thumb about a cut-off frequency of 95 Hz to 80 correspond.
- At the crossover:
The rotary volume control is with me to 0dB (= maximum output) and the frequency response knob I on about "12 o'clock" (ie approximately midway between the minimum and maximum deflection) set, which then appreciated a crossover frequency of very roughly 95Hz should correspond. As long as the output remains below 120Hz, everything is always in butter. ;-)
I did it all by tested quite well and would the above settings described as quite optimal combination. Considering the fact that you anyway can not really adjust very precisely and meaningful at these low cost rates with the products, said settings're already the best possible basis for an adequate bass response.
THE RESULT:
This small and convenient crossover now creates exactly what makes the Mivoc SW1100A finally a real subwoofer with unbeatable price / performance ratio. All the higher frequencies can thus eliminate quite good and the Mivoc SW1100A are finally only the frequencies again that bring the room to the quake, but no one can locate the quake on the direction ago. :-)
MY CONCLUSION:
The Mivoc SW1100A is absolutely recommended ... BUT fully stop only when you again a few euros binds the leg and At length said crossover and adjust as described. ;-)
