What moved me to the purchase is the additional focal length to 70mm, unlike other standard zooms. I also thought of a lens with continuous 2.8er aperture, 50mm but the long end were me then too little.
The feel of this lens is great cinema and feel to the touch, this I did not expect. It's not necessarily a lightweight, but gets down to the 70D well. The zoom is not too light and not too heavy, but it shows just the weight of the glass when the lens is facing upwards or downwards. Accordingly, the push is mild or severe. That the tube would however extend by itself, so far I could not identify.
Autofocus is fast and unerringly. In my copy of the Focus sits absolutely. As noiselessly I would not call the autofocus. You can hear him, but I would not call it annoying. For videos, I would always prefer a Canon STM. The focus ring is a little narrow, but can be operated sufficiently. The road from near to infinity is quite short, which is a bit of flair requires. I think it's just a shame that my not in the AF has no full-time engaged in the focus.
The image quality has really won me over. The Sigma is already at full aperture very strong performance and can make its images anyway you want to have to lose without picture quality. You Dims the image quality is increased only marginally, but this is at high resolution at maximum aperture only logical.
At the short end of the first Sigma shows weaknesses. Images in the 17-24mm show soft corners. I can live with, but everyone must decide for themselves. Vignetting and chromatic aberrations are not noticed me considerably.
There are lenses that are brighter just at the end, 2.8-4.0 is still a significant difference to 3.5-5.6. Especially the image quality was stunning at full aperture and a Fade is obsolete.
What is an absolute plus of this lens for me, is the macro capability. One can ran so close that it touches the object to be photographed with the lens. For the short-range which is very useful, however, should make for close ups on anyone skin with the lens hood on the eye. A macro lens with a long focal length, it is not replaced, it steals it through the close distance to a lot of light, but it is quite useful.
Plus:
- Haptic and processing
- Image Quality
- Macro
- Quick AF
Minus:
- No full-time engaged in the focus
- Images bit soft at the short end
I am very happy with my new plan and always forgive it 5 stars.
