I am after more than 4 years still blown away over Giacchinos Audio contribution to STAR TREK 2009. I still thought that no one at Goldsmiths or Horner's memorable themes and topics build and could reach the same catchy, so me of the new note Schwinger had equal the first movie adventure of the "new" / young TOS Crew fully excited. Its soundtrack was young, fresh, independent, and then yet familiar again, in a sense. But his new sculpture designed STAR TREK main theme and the drilled version of the original title track of the original series (by none other than Alexander Courage) was simply awesome, and so many times I purely listen to its soundtrack, the tingle, which I felt since then, over the years, not a bit less become.
To my relief, he was responsible again for the artistic design of music even when Sequel "Star Trek Into Darkness", and what can I say: He has repeated a fabulous score succeeded.
In addition to the acquired and minimally modified Main themes of the soundtrack offers a nice mix of brisk, dramatic and quiet, somber and brachial-blustering pieces that blend in perfectly with the respective film situations. My personal highlights among the new tracks:
- "Pranking the Natives", which initiates the beginning of the film with a lot of speed and "joke"
- "London Calling", which probably most minimalist pieces throughout the film music, with a predominant focus on piano
- "Brigadoom", a very interesting villain theme for John Harrison. Too bad that the longer "Ode to Harrison" has not made its way to the CD, because it is very worth listening to! But who is smart on the internet, also this track can get easily. It was played in front of the cinema release in the exclusive US radio, a recording of which is to make it easy find.
- "The San Francisco Hustle" - Combines the Harrison-piece with a breathless (film) Finale
In fact, I'm glad that Giacchino expanded its initial contribution to STAR TREK with another great, worth listening to parts, but without too much changing the original style of the 2009er scores beyond recognition. Thus a new, equivalent oeuvre has arisen that besides much "acoustic darkness" and the usual mix opti sound to Kirk and his crew contains. Eben wonderful "trekkig".
