I bought this switch because I was tired of waiting forever to large movie files are migrated from one computer to another. My old Netgear 100Mbps switch with which I was very happy and asked me who had always rely on its services to me was just become too slow. Because I wanted to change any cable and also did not want to invest money right into a switch, so I resorted to here. Little Spartan therefore comes with a small booklet and a power supply. Then subtracted only the old switch and easy wired and ready for this. The cables are old Cat. 5 cable, sometimes even several years old. With a cable to the router and to the rest of the ports, the four PC's ran. One can say that rule of thumb 1 MBit 120 KByte / sec. Means data transfer. So I had always so between about 10.5 to 11.8 Mbytes / sec. Speed at 100 Mbit. Now it is in spite of old cables before 85-98 Mbytes / sec. (All measured with single large image files) This is already a huge leap and excites even with old magnetic disks, the transfer rate to the full. With SSD drives I have not tested this now, because I have nothing to copy it because since only the OS it runs, but I think as you get quite close to the Gigabit ran. Am fully satisfied.
Addendum: I have a copy of a 6 GB file tested by SSD SSD times. Never the speed drops below 90 MB / sec. Peak value was at about 98 MB / sec. and is still very well go to the theoretical maximum speed. Network professionals may see my dilettante analogies to the transmission speeds and standards ... ;-)
Addendum 2: The energy-saving function described (up to 70% energy saving) seems appropriate, during my previous switch constantly remained lukewarm, this is cold and is only slightly warmer when working. Very nice ...
