Apple iPhone 5 Smartphone (10.2 cm (4 inch) display, 16GB memory, iOS 6) Black (Wireless Phone Accessory)

Customer Review

For the launch, I rose from my Samsung Galaxy S and Android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) on the iPhone 5 and so on iOS6 order. Here is the review of a Umsteigers after almost half a year:

WHY EVER WAY OF ANDROID?
Despite the high-end smartphone's then the update support from Samsung ended after a year. Clear - Samsung wants to sell mobile phones of course, even if the hardware would have the next generation of software yet participated loose. I then participated in the complete jailbreak number: Custom Roms, kernel, CyanogenMod etc. This worked for a time quite well. But the unreliability (random reboots, app crashes, sudden battery is empty after 2 hours, etc.) and the fact that I just did not feel like VA and more time for tinkering, made me try out iOS - not least because I the device partly professionally use (mails, appointments).

Shifting: Google products on your iPhone
My contacts, my private e-mails, my calendar etc. - everything at Google. That is the must function. And what can I say: Everything works just outstanding and (now) are also all apps on board: Gmail, Youtube, Maps, Chrome, Google search with voice search etc. You just typed his Google account and everything comes a flown - so that is. Side note: When Gmail is offering the device on as an Exchange Server via the iOS app. So you have all the emails in an app and they will also pushed. Who uses multiple Google Calendar (not only the main calendar) must have Safari control the Google Apps page and Unlock iOS Devices for its multiple calendars (usually only one is shown). I use the default browser on the Iphone Chrome: So are all my bookmarks and above all of course on all devices (laptops, desktops, tablet) synchronously. The browser is fast and smart.
UPDATE end of February 2013: It seems that Google has to 30.1.2013 a few APIs / services set, "which are rarely used." Unfortunately, it has caught in this course also the Exchange support for Gmail on iPhone. Business users have of course still Exchange Support for Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Contacts via GoogleSync. As a private user you have Gmail (and the calendar) now unfortunately set up as an IMAP account - ie no push. At least there is the possibility to add them as a CalDAV account for contacts. That everything still works very well - but push support would be beautiful again. But then this is probably Google's decision.

GREAT iOS ...
Since each app runs in their own little sandbox, hardly occurs interference between apps, since each sitting in their own prison. Only the native apps (Camera, Contacts) can really communicate with each other. In addition, each app as soon as you press the Home button, frozen and parked so to speak. That is, since then also invites nothing or runs in the background. Alone by the speed of iOS during the day hardly decreases. Everything is extremely fluid and reacts immediately, absolutely no lag. Also, there was yet not once at a random reboot. App crashes are the rarity. The system is very stable. Through rigorous quality control by Apple are all apps (even third-party) as a unified whole. You always have the feeling of using an iPhone - and not the mirror online app. Surely a matter of taste, but the so-called. Overall Experience is truly unbeatable. When it comes to app selection Android and iOS is probably now on a par, which is yet to be noted that just about anything Apps appear first and many apps exclusively for the iPhone. Because really good apps cost money even with Android, I allegedly considerably higher pay does not fall on share in iOS. Really great: Updates are always distributed simultaneously to all iOS devices. And even now the 4yr old iPhone 3GS iOS6 received yet - there can not even keep up with the Nexus devices from Google.

Not so great iOS ...
But exactly what makes iOS so stable is also the biggest gripe: Since the Apps - especially the non-Apple apps - among themselves not or only communicate restricted, you can, for example, not from the photo app out a photo directly to WhatsApp share; you have to open WhatsApp and then - after you've given the App the rights - to access the photos. Since you have on the device memory iOS no direct access, you can store collected for example documents anywhere. For the same reason I can not from an e-mail out select an attachment (except photos and videos). I have to choose already in my Dropbox and then share via email. In times of cloud services etc. no problem, but already a stark change. Really annoying but that's in any kind of notification: you get the notification that, for example, a WhatsApp - or Facebook message arrived. Then you go, for example, in the basement, where there is no network (or subway, etc.) - and then the message can not read, because it is only loaded when you open the app, which does not succeed without a net.

GENERAL HARDWARE AND BATTERY OF iPHONE 5
The iPhone 5 battery is considering its features and the hardware very well: It keeps a full working day (with always switched on Wi-Fi and 3G) and also makes for possibly after work with yet. Ie with a charge to get through an entire day with the evening program. The term is also absolutely predictable: If I do not take hold the device, the device loses hardly Battery (Idle drain). However, the great thing is rather: the battery is charging extremely fast. 50% of the battery is charging in under 30 minutes to about 100%. I'm really excited! However, I also ask of a smartphone instead of the maturity of an old Nokia like so many other reviewers. The camera of the iPhone 5 is very good and makes the compact camera unnecessary. Va extremely fast shutter speed and image sequence can be snapshots turn out well. But what stands out most positively in their daily work, is clearly the Retina display: Who like me is very much faced with general emails and text, can be so happy just a display above. It's not as loud and colorful as a AMOLED, but just as sharp and contrasty modern LCD plus very light and viewing angle stable - really excellent, even and especially when a lot of text. LTE is nice but because UMTS is not even widely available in Germany, vile selling point of the provider. Just a word to design and processing: The design is probably one of the best that can be found in the consumer electronics area. The build quality is really excellent. However, aluminum is also extremely sensitive. Despite careful handling I have several abrasions on the edges. The Display Glass is, however, extremely robust. Cover buy!

iTunes and iCloud
Basically, I find either no Connection software or a good. Because you MUST use iTunes, you have at least a good Connection solution. Moreover, the often denounced coercion is only half wild: In everyday life, you need iTunes really only if you want to transfer music or videos on the iPhone - and that goes even wirelessly via WLAN. Incidentally, you can also completely safe to use iTunes as a media library to organize music and uniformly to tag. So you have neither the whole music collection to send Apple nor transform everything in a strange format. I refer all music through Amazon digitally or even rib my audio CDs and then import halt to iTunes. This, however, neither a DRM applied to the files or changed something. Probably here often leads scaremongering and ignorance to reject iTunes. In everyday life, it really bothers me little. The iCloud I use for backups of iPhone. Once the device is in the tub and is connected to the mains, a backup with iCloud is made. I had my first iPhone wg. exchange of a processing error after 2 weeks. I took the new device at the Apple store in operation and put it via iCloud restores. I had not yet left the Apple Store and have all the apps were back exactly where they were on the old device, all contacts there. I had to enter a few passwords again. So I imagine that.

CONCLUSION:
The iPhone 5 is a very reliable machine with great functionality and rock-solid hardware in great design. Because here Hardware and software are coordinated, it is absolutely pointless to discuss specifications - and so it is not surprising that the iPhone 5 with (only) be a dual-core CPU many quad-core models in performance behind. What feature lists also do not reflect: The Overall Experience - everything from a single source, speed, easy. The surprises even an experienced user. The really great stability is for me one of the main criteria why I will keep the iPhone but probably - I can rely on and not worry myself just that once again abraucht a background process and my battery empties within 2 hours and I do not am available. This stability is purchased by the restrictions of the sandbox designs that bother me some really strong: Tags notifications, no real multitasking, hardly App interaction. At the moment my absolute reliability of the device these restrictions is worth it. I'll keep the iPhone, but will watching intently what is happening in the Nexus-bearing / when xPhone - because the price is already extremely proud, considering that 5 two Nexus 4 is replaced for an iPhone. 4 stars.
