Hello, I drive a Golf IV Variant, Bj. 2003, have allowed a double DIN DVD / tuner JVC me some time ago. Previously had already not working radio, but one of Pioneer built, which I now but due to the new tuner've sold. Was angry at the Golf has long been about the poor radio reception. In an open area it worked though immmer relatively noise-free, but once you get through densely populated areas (eg Old Town, ...) went, you lost some even quite the transmitter, and the noise was so high that you could not understand anything more content , Initially, I honestly did not even know that a phantom power for the antenna you need at VW. Allegedly are already integrated in the VW original radio, which I can not really say that the reception in the original Beta, Gamma, ... whatever - then it was really better than the Pioneer, or JVC. Short Note, however, still: In many forums is written that one must hang the blue cable of the feeder to the remote port of the radio. However, this has not improved little with me to receive. I then clamped it to Battery +. En Voila .... it works and how !!! I get almost more channels than the tuner courts has ;-))
PS: it's true what some write, the metal is not ummandelt with foam, but I think is not a disadvantage. Already is quite narrow in the radio slot and an additional cladding makes the part still greater.
