First of all: According to the journals relevant known "quasi all navigation devices are good to very good in practice (to me is a mystery how highly paid journalists and technical specialists can evaluate it differently - this is probably lacks any practical experience), this is only partly the case..
Having for years used a TomTom Navigator 6 it was time to switch to a current all-in-one "device. After reading some magazines, I reached for the TomTom Go 720. In order not to place undue pull the rating in the length : One should always follow the 1 to 3 star "ratings - the take almost always. Again at TomTom. The device is hardware technically very good, offers many features and above all, a property which can be any other device missing: There are thousands of freely available POIs (overlays) that can be integrated manually - and it has characterized the anti-speed camera support best also , TomTom is but the price / performance ratio deficient - many useful services cost self-extracting with a 350 euro device - and it's not even a charging cable here. The voice instructions are very abstract "to say the least and the maps are at least on the GOs extremely lousy.
Conclusion: NO BUY recommendation.
Then I looked at the same time the Falk F5 and the Navigon bought and tested based on the positive reviews 5110 - TomTom many critics have suggested this.
Compared to TomTom are both definitely better - both the maps and voice commands.
The Falk F5 is very intuitive (almost as good again the TomTom) to use - but has very little adjustment and despite chic design features a dusty graphical representation - modern done differently (see Navigon).
The Falk has a city guide included - need not - there anyway besides Berlin a handful of other cities is. The speed camera detector you have after every route planning reauthorize the menu. For POIs to navigate (eg via the popular TomTom Map is not possible.) The equipment is significantly louder (announcements) as the TomTom or Navigon the device
Conclusion: Good navigation, good voice instructions (the best in my testing), dusty graphics, slower route planning as the Navigon and the location arrow often hangs.
The Navigon 5110 falls directly on by its extremely sluggish touch display. Here you have to press quite substantially, so that the device responds. The display is activated with full functionalities, much too small for the large number of information. For the graphical display is very good. The operation is not as elaborate as in the other two devices - but you get used to it. The TMC receiver works quite well even without an external antenna. (Falk only really usable with external screw terminal). The address entry is not as simple as the Falk - but a lot of time does not cost this -. It's all just a little more delicate ", thus eg while driving hard to use the voice prompts are fairly quiet from 160 km / h you have been accurate. listen.
Even with Navigon many extras cost after one year in addition! For example, the radar detector or the latest maps. These costs should not be underestimated, wants to actively use his device.
Conclusion: Best graphical display, quick routing, multiple settings. Difficult operation and the car mount is bad (shakes and creaks).
The results of these three tests: One misses the Falk and Navigon some useful features of the TomTom. However, this has serious weaknesses in the navigation (maps and announcements). The Falk system is good for navigation (maps and announcements), but not really convincing - too few features and dusty surface - as you would expect for 250 euros more.
Navigon is also well suited for navigation, but has more features - but the display is very small and due to the non-configurable touch sensitivity hakelig to use.
What have I done? Everything returned and bought Navigon 2110 max!
This I have unfortunately seen late (but only came in April 08 on the market). Yesterday get unpacked - satisfied!
Power does indeed suggest that it has fewer features than a 5110 or 7110 - but not true. It has a 16: 9 4.3 ". Display all the positive features of the 5110, but also a much better (berührungssensitiveres) display (now as Falk and TomTom) The address input was also smart" implemented - now automatically (as in Falk ) the inability to mark disappears.
The Car Holder is also new - although very briefly but significantly better than the 5110. The TMC theme also works here without an external antenna rather well. The only negative, as in almost all devices is too quiet announcement (too loud it is somewhat distorted). The surface was slightly revised - also better than the 5110th
After all the tests and try I now have a really good and well priced device in Navigon 2110 max found. My absolute buy recommendation!
It really has everyone know themselves - but it is worthwhile to make the effort and to test and compare.
