I could examine two devices since the first unfortunately fell for all six dead pixel on Amazon. The strengths and weaknesses have been the same for both devices.
Unlike many other manufacturers Samsung does not use IPS panels, but relies on VA panels. These have the advantage of a better black level, its viewing angles are however quite limited. So the black level is pretty good for an edge-lit LED televisions. The viewing angles are as expected restricted more than 15 to 20 degrees should not deviate from the optimum one that also means: Sitting on a level with the TV. Otherwise fade the colors, black turns to gray and the contrast breaks.
Let's get to backlight. In dark images, almost everything is in the green zone: There are neither at the edge, even in the corners Flashlights, black film beams are very black, but unfortunately there is clouding. This can be reduced by turning down the backlight, but not completely eliminate. With bright images it looks unfortunately somewhat different. All four edges of the image are illuminated brightly, and the corners are darker than the rest of the image. I suspect Samsung has to be decided in the corners to obstruct any LEDs to prevent Flashlights in the corners, I find the dark corners but disturbing. Small clear: After calibration, using the 10 point white balance are only slightly darker and no longer bother me. So that everyone can get an impression I have also uploaded a picture of it. I would point out that it is through the selected image to an extreme example, in nomalen operation is this "phenomenon" far less visible, but disturbs repeatedly. Samsung also have the image sent - allegedly all within the manufacturing specifications, but I have never seen anything like it in a different device ...
What I write I can hardly believe myself: I'd rather have a shiny panel instead of the semi-matt. I was actually a fan of the matte panels, but now miss the brilliance of a specular. The semi-matte panel reflects the light while diffusely reflected overall but overall even more light. The colors are therefore being vigorously but unfortunately it lacks that certain lights. Rant here but overall fell at a high level me the colors well.
What was important for me is a good representation of movements, so that they are nice and smooth the image while remaining sharp. Here, the motion compensation helps really good and produced only a few artifacts. So I had imagined.
With the right settings Full-HD material looks really good, something different is the situation with SD material (cable digital). The upscaling capabilities are not among the best on the market. This manifests itself particularly in jagged edges on some edges and some very disturbing Dirty Screen effect in bright images in conjunction with panning. At first I thought the hinge together with the uneven backlighting, but appears to be caused by the quality of the starting material. I Robot on BluRay has virtually no interference, other BluRays unfortunately, in normal TV (also in HD over cable) it is quite clear to see. I hope that here, perhaps with a software update can be helped - it bothers very and is also the reason for which I forgive only 4 stars.
3D I could in the absence of active glasses do not test, but I found something on the Internet: enemies of the soap opera effect should switch to another manufacturer no 2013er device from Samsung dominates native 24p playback in 3D. It is automatically the interframe calculation fired up, even if you disable the setting. In play mode it is indeed from that bought one but with bucking, since only half remains above the 24 frames per second per eye. Who wants to often consume 3D should in the 7000 or 8000 series, invest the top models from other manufacturers or in passive 3D in my opinion.
SOUND
Although Samsung has unfortunately omitted a subwoofer, the sound can be heard. If the surround effect is turned on, the high frequencies, the sound is something to be turned back and the voluminous and deep enough for everyday wear out completely. In small rooms you can watch a movie with it sometimes, but of course lacks the power of a separate home theater system. Annoying: lies a cable in the headphone jack, the internal speakers are disabled. Will you have to pull the plug every time look without conditioning
Also annoying: When playing on the BluRay player, it sometimes comes to a kind of background noise, which always occurs when someone is speaking. Even then, the cable must be removed from the headphone jack, then the noise is gone. Was also in both devices is the case, but does not occur during playback on again, only after turning on.
GAMING
I was particularly pleased of the low input lag in game mode. I had returned the ES6300 because of the strong deceleration and am relieved that despite the many features and fast games like shooters are fully playable. Unfortunately, the game mode is not the 10 points white balance possible, the image is still good. In addition, the surround effect is therefore not in the list you have here the sound also cut back.
SMART TV & OPERATION
Thanks to the Smart Hub platform I would describe this year's generation of Samsung as the first real smart TVs. So far, this feature was rather immature and does not really have a lot of fun (but only know the platforms of Philips and LG from 2012). Thanks to the dual-core processor of the TV responds fairly quickly, if not immediately. The voice control is however currently still unusable. As far as I know Samsung has the largest app offering the most apps are not worth downloading but me and some important apps are missing in the fledgling platform (eg ZDF media library Watch Ever). Hopefully soon resupplied here. Much more than the apps I like the related television features: The TV watching which programs you watch and can remember automatically when your favorite show starts or recommend similar programs. The PVR function is now without annoying limitations: With Timeshift launched recordings can be recorded permanently in arrears, while recording the television must not stand still but you can interject a BluRay and record simultaneously. Unfortunately already during programs can not be easily labeled in the Guide to receive, you have to make always manually. Recording that you have just highlighted in the EPG Furthermore missing usually the first and last minute - it is advisable if possible to manually program with a little air in both directions.
The Touch Remote is a nice touch and makes initial enthusiasm, but rather would be my two 3D glasses have been. Even with her hurtling not through the menus and the buttons are sometimes quite difficult to press (such as the quieter button, which is very small). But it has at least the alternative and switching using the handwriting recognition which recognizes the drawn on the touchpad figures do then but a lot of fun ;-)
PROCESSING & CONSTRUCTION
Samsung may neither optical nor haptic hide that the entire device is made of plastic from the foot up to the frame. Still, I find that it looks quite classy and the gap dimensions are perfect, it creaks and wobbles nothing. The back like it less well: When inserting the rearward cable they are strongly after, also in building I had in between fear that the panel abkriegt one. The construction was very difficult because the screws just did not fit into the pre-braids holes of the stand. Here you have the screws in simple holes, turn not in the thread seem to be but a bit small.
I have a little used but eventually realized that there is no perfect TV unless you put not a few thousand euros on the table. Also, the F6470 is far from perfection, but overall it offers a compromise, with which I can live well. Especially for gamers probably the beating argument of low input lag. So who is looking for a device with a good price-performance ratio can access calms who but on the backlight can not be overlooked or a device for real home theater searches, which should take more money into their own hands. An all-rounder with forgivable weaknesses.
