Here is my result:
- Both Fritz boxes have almost the identical user menu. Very simple and intuitive. This can operate even a layman. Even the firmware update is a breeze. I felt a blessing compared to my experiences with D-Link, Linksys, Belkin and Netgear routers.
- Both Fritz boxes provide a stable, crash free DSL connection. The Connect was significantly higher than with my Speedport W503V and W700V routers.
The 3270 is designed to DSL 16,000, the 3370 can hold up 100,000 DSL. So if you have a DSL connection has rapidly than 16,000 or can get at some point, which should take the same 3370.
Otherwise, the 3270 up to and including. DSL 16,000 just as "fast" as the 3370th
IP-TV is the way easily with two Fritz! Boxes.
- The WLAN connection stability is identical and very good in both Fritz boxes. No discontinuations. Also the "interference" in microwave mode and radiating foreign Wlannetzen. Both Fritz boxes change automatically to the best possible transmission channel.
- The Wlanreichweite is different. By 3270 I had on the first floor in the cross high through the house from the router farthest room a reception strength of fluctuating 1-2 bar in Windows (more is better) and with the freeware wlaninfo a magnitude of -80 dB (less is better). By 3370, these are stable 2 beams in Windows and -75 db with wlaninfo. So the 3370 is better in the WLAN range.
The free iphone / ipad app Fritz! AppFon allows among others the graphical display of Wlanempfangsstärke and also in MBit / s.
USB port:
Both the 3270 and the 3370 detected all my USB sticks and external hard drives, regardless of whether with or without external power supply. FAT32 and NTFS are detected. My biggest HD was 1 TB and went smoothly.
Media Server function:
I have an external hard drive connected (unpowered) to the USB port. Then my videos copied from the digicam and movies from the web. Both Fritz boxes are DLNA compliant and the content (even Full-HD) easily and smoothly streamed at: Samsung Smart TV, Sony Bravia Smart TV, Zappix-HD + satellite receiver, iphone, ipad 3.
Tips for iPhone / iPad: the Apps ViPlay and File Explorer function properly with both Fritz boxes and stream the video on iPhone / iPad from, also formats the apple otherwise not "allowed" to play.
BUT: to stream to multiple devices at the same time simultaneously in full HD was stuttering in 3270 once the device has been operated 3.te. The 3370 3 devices could receive the full HD videos simultaneously.
Remeasured: FAT32 formatted hard drives work on both Fritz boxes faster than NTFS formatted.
Data transfer rate with h2testw via LAN / WLAN:
3270: 3.8 MB / s write, read 4.5 MB / s.
3370: 6.3 MB / s) read, write 7.5 MB / s.
And the My Network Places in Windows Explorer builds up much faster on the 3370 than for 3270.
Although USB2.0 is therefore the data transfer speed of both Fritz boxes unfit for a quick daily data backup solution to an external USB hard disk at the Fritz box. Since it takes but the purchase of an extra NAS server with built-in hard drive and connection to the lanPort the Fritz box.
For occasional copying itself rotated videos or storing video finds from the Web is the media server of 3370, however, fully sufficient. In addition, one could temporarily disconnect the external hard drive from the Fritz box, connect it to a PC, copy quickly, then reconnect to the Fritz box.
To rework a bit annoying and for firmware updates is the necessary indexing of the contents external hard drive. When copying with Windows Explorer, the index does not notice who operated devices such as Smart TV read the old index and do not find the new file. Indexation must be initiated via the web interface of the new Fritz box.
Addendum 23.02.2013: This Fritz box works flawlessly even on a cable connection with a Hitron Cable Modem. So I made it: With cable Germany in the Online Customer Center login and activate the bridge mode in Settings-Internet. At the customer log. After that Hitron Cable Modem disconnected from the power. Connect to Lankabel the LAN1 port on the cable modem to the LAN 1 port on the Fritz box. Switch on cable modem again. The required settings in the Fritz box are described in detail in a Help video on the AVM manufacturer homepage (previously so there look).
Conclusion:
Who does not need the media server function and only has 16,000 DSL, the cheaper 3270 choose. Who has a faster DSL connection has to resort to 3370. The same applies if the media server function is to be used. Who dreams of a fast data backup solution via home network, an extra NAS server needs at Lanport the Fritz box.
May my review for you help.
