I rather expect was a "smart" device that cuts alone when the load is finished and that it no longer has power to request it.
But it's still better than 4h connecting equipment to mains-23h 11:30 p.m. ET that remain connected until 9-10am in the morning, and for 99% of devices 4h is much more than enough for a full load. And one shot continuously and therefore occupies a place to charge 4 devices simultaneously.
