Honestly, there are no large noticeable different performance between the three models, although in the benchmarks we see big differences between models. My Intel SSD 02/2010, now mounted on a 2nd PC is always on top! My Evo 840 has found its place in an external box USB3 Inateck FE2006.
As against which changes in my case is capacity. With a 500GB SSD, I was able to remove my old HDD in my lap or javais my personal files, photos, and thus reduce access time to files, noise pollution, and consumption.
Jai created 2 partitions for this unique record of my setup:
- 1 180Go (real 172Go) for Windows and all software and games installed
- 1 320GB (real 292Go) for my personal records, photos
In all cases, it should dactiver AHCI mode disks in the BIOS settings, in order to receive optimum performance.
It is also strongly recommended to install the software accompanying the SSD (here Magician). It allows you to set the best Windows features to optimize the SSD performance and life span. Finally, it allows to update the firmware of the SSD.
The Samsung Magician software is particularly well designed and intuitive.
If like me, you have a PC dancienne generation SATA II, SATA III SSD it will not be so restrained in practice. A dedicated website has compared the two interfaces, type in a search engine "SATA 3Gbit / s is it fast enough for current SSD? ".
FYI, here are the notes i obtained under Windows 7 with 3 SSD:
- Intel SSD X25-M 80GB = 7.7 / 7.9
- Samsung SSD 840 EVO 250 GB = 7.9 / 7.9
- Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500 GB = 7.9 / 7.9
I recommend this report to SSD Price / GB, reliability and Magician software.
