The device is small, very convenient to forget it in a pocket.
There can be a lack cache / protection for the lens?
It is really well designed, the menus are great and very well thought out ergonomics.
The sensitivity in low light is remarkable, can be photographed without problems at night with very little light if we take the trouble to ensconce not move. (Even my Nikon camera is not better)
GPS functions are really bluffing, you can even record the track of your trip / ballad off device and the information included in the map are very precise. (Eg include the town or place says in the commentary to the photo in addition to geographic coordinates. A must if you have a Mac and you use iPhoto!)
Once back home you can get your journey and publish such a route sharing site: This is magic, your photos appear on a route directly on a map!
Automatic panning is great, the device that integrates a digital compass is able to detect your position: you turn on yourself and panning is in the box! (For purists, there is the possibility to take the pictures one by one, leaning on a piece of the previous photo.)
Side sealing, RAS, no fog or particular problem. The hatch locking system is really perfect. No false manipulation possible.
It is obviously necessary to keep in mind that the door should be kept clean. A single hair or grain of sand can jeopardize tightness of the unit if you do not pay attention but it is valid for all waterproof cameras.
Side shooting, Full Auto mode is very effective. You just leave a small seconds for the unit to analyze the situation and make its settings. I think this is the source of disappointment can be read here and there on blurry photos ... Wait until the icon appears on the top left and the photos are simply perfect. The flash tends to overexpose a short distance but it is possible to underexpose images very easily with very thoughtful functions on command buttons. The macro is remarkable distance shooting is amazing in this mode.
The optical stabilizer is a movement on this device over conventional devices that simply a digital stabilizer.
The Blink Detector function is frankly so so. I do not understand that a serious manufacturer like Nikon has incorporated a function like this on one of its aircraft ... This is totally unnecessary and not really effective ...
On the video side it is also really perfect.
Note that the microphones are still quite sensitive to side wind.
The high-speed video mode allows to make absolutely stunning replays. (Note that there is no sound on slow sequences)
HD picture is perfect. No stutters, stereo sound quality.
Provide a large capacity card if you want to have the margin.
Provide also a 40.5mm polarizing filter if you want to make beautiful pictures beachfront or beach.
The filter holder is provided with the device and clips onto the lens.
Side autonomy, GPS consumes quite obviously if it is activated but considering the price of the batteries and their small size is not really a problem to bring in some in the pocket. Note that the GPS support battery change. You do not lose your track if you fall out of power in full ride. This is particularly interesting for several days trekking or long walks where you take lots of pictures.
The ability to control the unit by hand movements is interesting but did not really convinced. Besides skiing with huge mittens where it can be difficult to make photos, otherwise the ON / OFF and TRIGGER buttons are still accessible even with gloves. Either way he gets himself standby after a while, so we really free to move if you do sport for example. (Those who have never had to wait for the photographer lagging in the process of adjusting or switch off / on his camera up their hands :-)
The only drawback of this device is in my opinion the lack of protection of the lens and flash a little too hard at close range.
It will invest in a pocket to be able to give it up without fear to the bottom of a bag.
For the rest I find really perfect.
