If the beginning is still interesting, with rhythm, reading starts to become painful before half then it turns into a nightmare ... The characters are also reliefs and without cliché images of Epinal, the "bounce" (or is it rather a slippery slope) agreed and uninteresting, flat and poor style. The general tone quickly turning melodramatic fools, I did violence to deal with them, hoping that the end at least raises the ... But the end is worse. The author, deciding in the last 10 pages of digressions to explain one or two details left in the dark hero flies to their full final great pathos. And I suspect the author did not have the guts to go through with her story because she was probably attached to her hero. Looking back over history, it flies readers of moments to an end without emotion or taste. A real mess. In addition two elements have hindered me in my reading: - The scope of spiders. I see the symbolic good (primary school level) of the son weavers of fate, but it is so subtle that I found ridiculous process. - The frequent references to French culture while the characters are American or English. In return the lack of cultural references (apart some geographical references clichés) left me a bad impression of scenery pasteboard. - The lack of music. While the hero lives only by the music, I do not have any idea of his musical style. It describes haircuts, baroque outfits, past gestural modes, but the author has not even tried to pass a note, a reference to be located. In short, silence is heavy.
I can not even say that I hated it. I was terribly bored. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is not looking for a tearful melodrama or the author constantly yields to ease.
