Scope of supply:
4-Port USB Hub
Quick Reference Guide (multilingual; the German translation is very funny but understandable with a little imagination)
Unpacking:
The cardboard packaging is visually well designed and the Power Bank can be unpack easily. There are no tools such as scissors or knife needed.
First impression and processing:
The USB Hub comes in a plain, black, square (60mm x 60mm x 10mm) glossy casing on which we unfortunately see every fingerprint. The USB hub is processed immaculate. There are no disturbing burrs or columns. The USB connector is securely connected and provided with a bend protection. Unfortunately, the cable is a little thick and inflexible. A little thinner and more flexible cable I would find pleasant at this point. It is about 30cm long and thus ideal for use on a laptop.
Speed Test:
The rate I've been using the tool h2testw initially 3x right on the USB 3.0 port of the laptop, and then each 3x determined at each of the 4 USB ports on the USB hub and calculates an average.
Writing:
Directly on the laptop: 56,2MB / s
The USB Hub: 57,8MB / s
Read:
Directly on the laptop: 58,9MB / s
The USB Hub: 58,6MB / s
So you have no loss of speed through the USB hub.
As some reviewers have reported that they have problems when 2 hard disks are connected to the USB hub, I have also tested this. To this end, I put 2 USB hard drives without external power supply and a USB flash drive into the hub. All three were recognized immediately and without any problems. To simulate the behavior under load I have copied a folder with about 5GB data from one to the other USB hard drive. This, too, went smoothly with data transfer rates of 50-60MB / s.
Some reviewers wrote that the device would on a smartphone or tablet in USB host mode do not function. So I tested this. I have first a USB stick connected directly with an appropriate adapter, and then hung the USB hub in between. And as might be expected to work the USB hub here as well properly.
Test Equipment:
- Dell Precision M4700 Laptop 1x (Windows 7 Prof 64bit)
- 2x Apricorn Aegis Padlock 3 USB 3.0 1TB Hard Drive (with hardware encryption)
- 1x SanDisk Ultra 16GB USB 3.0 USB 3.0 USB stick
- H2testw test tool (with 128MB data packets)
- HTC One M7
Review:
+ Good workmanship
+ Good compatibility (in the test with all devices)
+ No driver installation required
+ High data rates (no appreciable difference for direct connection in the test)
+ More USB hard disks (no external power supply)
+ High data transfer between 2 devices connected to the USB hub
+ Also works on Android devices with USB host function
- Connecting cable a little too stiff (but not interfere)
For me, absolutely 5 star and an absolute buy recommendation.
Conclusion:
Small USB hub with super performance. Distinguished by its design Ideal for use on laptops. High data transfer rates without appreciable loss of speed compared to a direct connection. Also suitable for use on Android devices with USB Host function.
This little USB hub receives a permanent place in my laptop bag.
