(...) Personally, there is nothing more annoying than having to manage the farmers who glandent as one is supposed to be the Grand Strategor of the Empire. Resource management is reduced to its simplest expression in Praetorians, while keeping a good sense. So, the battles are really great. This is one of the only games I know where a well-organized army can pulverize a three times greater horde, and where some barbarians can roll the finest misdirected Roman legion. The tactical aspect makes sense. It's like the first scene of Gladiator.
