Fact is, the UE Boom actually plays a lot louder than the SoundLink Mini it can, I guess about 50% louder and reached roughly the volume of large SoundLink, albeit very center-weighted. At full power, Bose sound compresses the already considerable and screwed the bass back accordingly, the UE boom sounds in this volume is still relatively unconstrained and dynamic, but also with less bass. Even at full volume prevents distortion determine and surprisingly the sound from the UE Boom remains even as remarkably dynamic call without limiting value.
But I rarely hear at maximum volume, even in the garden I can not quite Bose revving without even spoil me with my neighbors. I let the speakers like to run in the background or listen to low volume, and since the UE Boom can not say. The sound is hollow, lifeless and without brilliance, bass can be no question, because the UE Boom plays below 100Hz hardly anything, while the Bose even at 60Hz can even create a rich bass. The EQ settings on the app are to be seen more as a gimmick. "Bass Boost" is more like a treble cut, for where nothing is, nothing can be raised, the speaker sounds simply still dull. The EQ default sounds but then convincing.
Up to 70% of its volume of Bose nose has sonically definitely hands down the front. It sounds noble, full, brilliant, just more expensive. One has the feeling of having a large speaker in front of him, while the UE Boom reminds a lot more to a kitchen radio.
It is nice that the sound from the UE boom is relatively diffuse, although it only radiates on both sides, the chassis are apparently so exposed installed that you can turn the speaker without back driving large losses in high-frequency reproduction. The Bose, however, is much more critical when setting up, for he is not optimally aligned to the listener, the treble reproduction also decreases drastically.
Also on the features can fully convince the UE Boom. App support, synchronous volume control, 2 pairs of boom to a stereo system, hands-free if you absolutely need etc etc. Since Bose can compete in any way.
Still, I find the price of the offered way too expensive. For 100-150 the UE Boom would unrivaled, it sounds better and louder than competing models of JBL, but the Bose one makes then but fewer compromises with regard to the sound reproduction. One never has to feel a compact loudspeaker in front of him.
For external parties both are nothing, because we must not fool yourself! But already you need much larger systems, thus also outside enough volume and depth is created. Although the UE Boom plays louder than the Bose, a total he draws but then the short straw!
PS. an audio comparison between two I posted in the comments section.
