I truly did not expect much for this price, the most compromising I had suspected in the system stability, the surface and the processing. But I was wrong.
One thing first: This is not a multimedia Nas PBXs multifunction device, it is simply a router with built-in 4-port switch, which unfortunately has only 100 megabit ports - but that's about my only gripe. If here faster ports would be used, I had an external switch off saving the rear. But now ansich to the device:
The router has a sophisticated, high quality finish, in my view, since rattles or wobbles nothing.
The first start was loose from the hand, the most import is equal to the current firmware, which probably turns something on the wireless stability I've been told by a colleague. Do not worry: WLAN runs with me with the latest firmware absolutely stable. not the slightest problem!
Speaking stable: Have the part was not so long, and only by a power failure, the router was driven to restart - after 32 days. During this time he was neither slow nor he behaved strangely, as the habit of doing some devices, if you do not reboot every few days. The Wi-Fi reception is much better than with the Fritz! Box, which you have to say that the only one antenna and had no WiFi N dominated. Now I've been using the mobile wireless throughout the house to the basement and in large areas of the garden well - it was impossible previously.
The router is working very well and the surface reacts promptly. The default settings are useful, but you can still "tune" a little, for example, the QoS rules. Now bigger brakes Downloads surfing no longer and also online multiplayer is only marginally affected even heavy utilization of the line for me, if at all. Excellent!
If someone already has a modem and a router examines who is fast and good Wi-Fi reception has to want to have without a multimedia box or need, which is in my opinion the right place. At the price hardly beatable!
Oh yes, even an addendum: There are several devices, called the RT-N12. The latest version is technically now, the version D1. There is an e-version, but has a different chipset (Realtek) and a completely different menu. This is older and not as powerful, Weinger storage etc.
Also, there is still an "old" RT-N12, since even the body looks different. I do not know what logic Asus is pursuing, but if one knows one can avoid the old parts and buy the D1.
