Affordable for frequent printers, students, self-employed, etc.

I've been looking for a long search for a printer for my studies. Actually I wanted to buy me a color laser printer (MFP), but prices for it are too high for me and these devices chase much toner dust into the air, which is not exactly healthy.

Was important to me in particular, the price of the cartridges, which are known to be far too overpriced. Previously, I have used various Lexmark printers; was the price of a black XL cartridge initially 23 euros, there are now (after a few years) has 32 Euros! And for about 500 pages. After I read the recessions of other users, I have the Brother DCP-J140W and additional cartridges from a third party (ms-point 20x cartridges (cartridges) XL) ordered for just under 13 euros on Amazon. It does so otherwise the error by first using the original cartridges and then after months of other manufacturers. And then you realize that are not to be used, but may return to the printer then no longer.

The printer I could easily install almost 7 64 bit for both USB and for the WLAN operation under Windows. I had to try several times, no idea why ...

Since I wanted to know if the printing problems with "Fake cartridges" has, I immediately used the cartridges from ms-point rather than the original. And lo and behold: It prints very good! The first few pages look a little pale, but after that the pressure results were good. But you have to set the quality to "high" or at least to "Normal", so you have good results. A disadvantage of the high quality setting is, of course, that the pressure takes a little longer and a little more ink required. Otherwise, the quality is with these cartridges for me very well (the color prints). I do not have printed photos, I think, as special printers are better for it.

My "Fake cartridge" black was enough for an estimated 600 pages, absolutely great for the price. I have from earlier times still refill kits. After the black cartridge was empty, I simply times refilled (you should do really careful with newspapers etc. as an underlay as a right mess created). The printer has accepted them easily again, the ink level indicator is correct (indicates that it is full) and I was able to print my many sites and even without streaks! You have to plug in gently, as they expire, when it is tilted the cartridge, however. Also the protective paper on the cartridge is a little hard on, but who wants to save, to suffer ;-)

Important: I recommend the cartridge change or if your cartridge refilled even necessarily this with plenty of newspaper or similar.. perform as an underlay and best to have no bright clothing. Disposable gloves should also wear because the ink after a few days completely off obvious.

For frequent printers is certainly the duplex function (two-sided printing) useful. For me personally, it's not about to save paper costs, but on paper to save themselves, because otherwise I'm too full folder. Unfortunately, this printer does not have this feature, not "manual duplex" in the printer driver, which greatly facilitates the two-sided printing. But it is as follows:

We choose in the settings "subset - only odd pages") and prints los (The hook in "Reverse Pages" has to go). If the total page number is odd (eg. The document has 19 pages), so you must now take the last page and not be inserted in the paper tray, otherwise the first page in the paper tray and the back remains will therefore remain empty.
Then you put the pages in a certain direction back into the paper tray (depending on whether portrait or landscape differently, the best one does this with some pages times itself) and chooses this time "subset - only even-numbered pages" and sets the hook at "Reverse Pages").

It is good that this device has a tray so that no more dust the leaves. However, it is in turn complicated if you want to print on both sides.

There is in my view a printer for home use, which has no defects. Just as this model:

Sometimes the wireless connection depends and you have to restart the printing process (with hundreds pages which is annoying and you have to then set the page number from which you want to print again manually).

It happens that the printer in the middle of the night (usually by 3 clock!) "Wakes up" and even a maintenance carried out. This is enough to wake me up. Remedy contrast creates just the right setting of the time the printer (I would check this setting the first time after a few days again), the maintenance function can not be disabled as I know. The printer should still always be connected to the socket.

Sometimes a paper jam occurs when you want to print, for example. Films. I find it incomprehensible that I was just trying to use a single sheet. Luckily I need that very rarely.

The connector is on the side. Depending on the workplace can be good or bad. But awkward is the USB port: you have to bend a little the cable because the port is in the inner part of the instrument.

How it already looks at the pictures, this device has no ADF (Automatic Document Feeder), to German: Document Feeder. This is in almost all ink jet printers of Brother the case, except for the A3 printers. If you want to copy many pages, you have to copy all the pages individually. I need something but rather rare.

It's my first printer from Brother. Previously, I had Lexmark and Canon, but you can safely throw in the bin. The models have now all a chip in original cartridge even leads to malfunction, which is of course very annoying, because you already pay a fortune for the cartridges. And at the usual manufacturers noted the printer that third cartridges are used and constantly annoying with messages. The pages are purposely (!) Printed with stripes, for why the device changes the print tone, just because I have filled another ink? That's even with the original cartridges of the case, which are slightly more expensive than the regular and supposedly can even be refilled (suffix "A". In my case, Lexmark Nr. 36 A. But that did not work. In my eyes, is the fraud, there intentionally this malfunction have been installed.

The printing costs are so low that I can not forgive fewer stars, despite some shortcomings.

I am very happy in spite of some shortcomings with the printer. At last I will not get ripped off by the expensive cartridges!

My advice after years of experience printer: Buy some only Brother printer! Because they have no chips in the cartridge and the manufacturer is not so "cool profit" as other manufacturers.
