Can indeed theoretically not work because after starting the detergent is rinsed (like washing powder) away immediately in de machine.
The machine (3 years old) ran with normal performance, so a decline in washing performance was not aware or known, it did not smell unpleasant.
After using the machine Xavax smelled neither better nor worse.
Whether Xavax an effect on limescale has (that's why it was mainly bought) I can not say,
"I can not look into the inner workings of the machine yes".
