The case of the WD is a lot shorter, so it is handy during transportation. On the table that does not matter. For this you can arrange the port while Seagate and even connect up a small anderere SATA HD with it on PC.
The processing of the case by Seagate with two half-shells is significantly better. All edges are rounded. In contrast, the housing of the WD is a plastic bucket with a lid. That in itself is not a problem. Only the upper, outer part of this pan is totally burred and sharp-edged. If the first 6 months are around, I will probably take the time really fine file or sandpaper and break this edge. This must actually not be. Since it is of my colleagues also when this is probably also in all the other of said series the case.
From the black model, I can only advise when it comes to color. This has a colleague. Although there is no gloss varnish, it looks after a short time already worn properly. Again, the Seagate is defying glossy surface much better. She's twice her age and three times as nice.
As for the speed, both are fine. So to 80MB when writing to and USB3 USB2 24MB at both create. Reading are both still a little faster. These are of course the sequential values, in this case by CrystalDiskMark. In practice, I can do it with video files as well.
The connecting cable is both about 40cm long. For a USB3 cable is extremely thin and flexible. I find this sufficient length, no matter whether I connect the HDs on my notebook, Bluerayplayer or TV. (On TV, it is just so still long enough.) On PC it depends rarely, I have just put it right on it. Mir is but rather need to take as a constantly too long cable. And for the equipment in any case only USB2 can, it would do so any micro-USB2 cable. The longer and there is still thinner and more flexible.
In addition to housing, there are still a weighty reason why I have to deduct a star.
The two hard disks of this model (which by my colleague and my own) can not be connected together on a PC. Whether I take a PC plug-in card with a USB3 or a PC with an Intel OnBoard USB2. While efforts are being recognized both HDs as devices, but drive letter (1 to my colleague and his 2 with my) Windows allocates only the disk that was connected first. Thus, the hardware, it is recognized, but on the HD connected as no second partition.
A copy files directly from one of the two on the other was not possible. And so an incompatibility in the family I find really embarrassing for a manufacturer of hard drives.
