And then there was the gameplay in GTA, but Version Wild West: riding on horseback, face an ambush in the heart of a canyon or a fort, hiding behind a rock and hear the bullets whistling around itself, grab his 6 shots or his Winchester ... ^ o ^ nice adrenaline!
The Western universe is sublimely rendered here, and one can choose to behave in West Avenger attempting to conquer a semblance of order ... or to play as a desperado flying horses, robbing banks, robbing the widow and the orphan (fashion that looks more like GTA there with lawsuits with the sheriff to the key)!
Level playing games, you can play poker and blackjack in the saloons (and cheating), enjoy a game of arm wrestling, throwing horseshoes, hunting, capturing and breaking horses (fun!) ...
Immersion is really on top, and sound effects and light and visual moods are perfect. Whether "story" mode which I insist on the quality of the plot, or "free" mode, rarely boring or trivial, the game suffers no bug, no loss of form *, and carries the player into the wilderness halfway between Deadwood, John Wayne movies, and those Sergio Leone ...
The overall tone is much less dark than that of the last GTA (and RDR is unquestionably better written), and include some of the fun that animated titles as Vice City or San Andreas ...
Being wearied by the kings of the underworld, car dealers and other thieves so dear to Rockstar, I am also personally very happy that we will not be forced to play the gangster only, and we can give a more positive tone to his character (I spend my time to greet the villagers "howdy!" ^^).
I have not yet tested the online multiplayer mode, which can form bands of 15 players to take on challenges (treasure hunt, attacking banks ...), but it promises!
More than a GTA-like in Far West, Red Dead Redemption far exceeds its predecessor ... A must have for fans of the genre.
A total success. THE game of the year for me. :)
* Careful though if you are the owner of an old PS3 generation because this game is severely heat the console (as indeed was the GTA IV). On the "slim" models, no worries, by cons!
