What's so special about the K5?
Well, for one it is a camera with a new sensor, the high-contrast and low-noise images even at high ISO range - ie with very little light - allows. There are cameras by Sony (the manufacturer of the sensor) and Nikon, which also obstruct this sensor - but it looks like a published index of DxO as if Pentax taken out of this really ingenious sensor for the best. The quality of the recordings, which are possible with this camera is really enormously impressive. From my per se is not bad Pentax K10D picture quality of the K5 was a step into another dimension.
The camera has some weather protection, but only makes sense if you used appropriate lenses (lenses from Pentax with the suffix WR). So you can have inside car with the camera in situations that are otherwise in order to protect the material avoided (eg in water). But hiking is relaxing if you know that the electronics of the camera does not equal a mitbekommt if there is even a small rain shower.
The camera has an image stabilization that works on a mobile sensor installed and compensates movements of the camera, allowing shots at slower shutter speeds without causing blurring from hand shake. Along with the great performance of the camera in the higher ISO range, this opens up hitherto inaccessible possibilities.
The camera offers professional settings. I can because just about everything Prgrammieren what just might be possible somehow. That would be the professional - but the novice may since have its difficulties. The K5 is definitely not a point-and-shoot camera. There is a green mode in which the camera does everything automatically - but for such a use, the camera is actually too bad.
An option of the K5, which I like to use is the ability to make HDR images directly with the camera. The camera in this process three recordings are made: an overexposed, a normally exposed and an underexposed image. These recordings will be charged in an image, which then has an enormous contrast ratio. I then optimum drawing and the maximum information both in very dark or very bright areas. I prefer the camera charged HDRs such HDRs later generated by the computer, because I was so right on the spot had to check whether my HDR recording has succeeded. The camera also offers the possibilities to use without the HDR function to correct dark or light areas of the image automatically. I use this very much - but you should not villeicht choose the highest level of these options, because otherwise the photos can easily look somewhat unnatural.
The camera can record up to 7 frames per second in series, allowing nice motion studies.
The screen is of the highest quality. It really is very possible with this screen to judge the quality of the recordings - especially if you zoom in one bit. Unfortunately, the screen is not movable - an option that I would have had very happy. The screen, however, is good also to see if you are not directly at right angles it looks but from an acute angle - as if the camera up stretches to over an obstacle of time to take pictures or hold down to a Aufnahem from the worm's-eye view to make - the most extreme positons are without a mobile monitor but not - as it is, then: down with his head in the mud to controlled in the extreme angle of view to come.
About the screen I have the opportunity of LiveView view of the object. I do not get this in the image of the typical for a SLR camera way above the mirror in the viewfinder, but the image is directly folded mirror to the sensor and I get the image live on the monitor. The work itself is very good. In conditions with very little light or situations where very fast focusing is needed but you should choose the classic route over the Speigel and the viewfinder, because the auto focus works here more quickly and reliably.
The body of the camera is relatively compact in Likens to other manufacturers and the camera lies comfortably in your hand. It is very robust and constructed from high quality material. Who takes the K5 in the hand who gets instantly feel a real camera, a true hand tool (and not a plastic toy like some other manufacturers) in front of you.
The camera enables high quality video recording - a feature which I say but little, may be because I've only used very rarely.
The built-in flash is very useful. I actually do not use any other. If I need another - but then becomes slightly a little tight: Pentax goes when it comes to flash TTL control a very own way with their P-TTL system. So you have to make sure that the flash, the they acquire this camera or you wish to use to be compatible with this system. The choice is there less than with other manufacturers.
The lens that comes with the camera (18-55 WR) is of such a standard lens not bad per se. However, I use usually a hochwerigeres lens with a zoom range comparable and take the 18-55 R only when my WR option of water protection is important.
I can highly recommend the Pentax K5.
