Good day,
I bought this device in the S ***** - market because it was for 1599 Euro on offer including a voucher for 150 euros. Thus I had the Gerfühl to have actually made a bargain. Idea was to give me a current Full HD Best to buy equipment which is intended to remain in use for approximately 2 years until the new 4K technology is mature. For comparison, I would now and then my Sony KDL-46NX715 (NP 1699, -euro) use, which I have been in use for 5 years.
I will not enumerate technical values in this review because they are seen several times on the Internet. I apologize for spelling errors.
Construction and interior design:
The construction went smoothly. A Quick Start Guide to build and a slightly more detailed instructions on setting up the Sony is. In my view in the greater guidance but much to me that deeper information is missing on the device. These are only available after registration of the product on the Sony website and are then available for download as a PDF.
The attachment of the feet as well as the general structure should be carried out in pairs due to the size of the device. Especially with the feet is to be mentioned positively that this can also be placed centrally. This can be seen in pictures rare. The feet have an approximate distance of 50 cm to each other and the Sony can thus also be placed on shorter TV-boards.
In the establishment you will be guided through a user-friendly menu and it comes quickly equip. The Satellitten programs were found quickly with me. Moving the programs / channels after setting is more cumbersome because the Porgramm can only be moved individually.
Style:
Built home provides the wedge design that tapers from wide narrow down still above fantastic. Actually, you do not want to put too close to the wall to Sony, because otherwise the design features rather something lost. The materials used valuable aspect. The feet are covered in chrome metal. The left and right silver frame appear to be in brushed stainless steel (possibly also aluminum).
Remote control (s):
with supplied were 2 remotes. A standard remote control which compared to my old Sony model really is not just that's what you'd expect from a Sony flagship. Quite simple standard. The second remote has a touch pad and is suitable for multimedia Anwedungen. In practice, it constitutes a relief, for example, during the input of words.
I personally would have preferred to pack both remote controls in one, which actually should not be a problem today. Especially for those who love less remote controls on the coffee table which is again a step back.
Additional Features & Apps:
So far I have not tested all functions. However, here is a clear progress compared to my old Sony recognizable. Especially in the menu system and speed. Skype is fully integrated and elsewhere are all standard apps like Youtube and Co. present.
The streaming movies through DLNA worked very well with me. Full HD movies could be played without any lag with no problems from my Plexserver Wireless (WiFi 300Mbits).
Negative to mention, however, that although the installed app Amazon Prime, but is not yet operational. Think but this is resolved by holding an early update (Update 6/10/14: The Amazon Prime app works at the present time still do not).
Terms and image:
I got the last 4 days half the night around the ears beaten while trying to decent adjust the image. Gesammtaufwand been about 10hrs to no avail. In addition I have several test videos and free photos from the test agree Fersehspezialist Burosch used. The result is rather modest compared to my old Sony and not at all in line with expectations that I had a Sony flagship. Very disappointed I am from the poor black level, which is especially at night in a dark room to the fore. Especially with movies in widescreen format with upper and lower beams schwazen comes the difficult to then carry as these are not black but are rather gray. Rather dark films such as the Hobbit therefore less fun. In addition, the screen is not homogeneously illuminated. The colors are fine though sometimes overstated (in red) something. Moreover, me it has not yet succeeded, the ghosting in the image in sharp transitions (eg. In black and white) to remove. When people in the picture, it looks more as if they are also surrounded by a wise contour consisting of a circumferential thickness of 3 pixels. Normally this can be regulated by the Bildschäfe. But also disable all additional functions Bildverbesserer was unsuccessful.
The 3D playback, however, apart from the problems described above Impeccable. I personally like the passive 3D system better, even if it means a reduction of the pixels on the horizontal plane. Even the 3D glasses from the cinema function properly.
Sound:
Here again a negative point in relation to the Audio Return Channel (ARC) HDMI output. This is used to transport over HDMI audio signals to a receiver. Apparently seems Sony consistently outputting DTS signals to refuse on this output. Thus, can be transported, although Dolby Digital and funnily enough also LPCM 7.1 over the ARC, but not DTS. Since I unfortunately have no other connection options, half of my video collection future remain unused because they are present only in DTS.
Update 29/05/14: Unfortunately, I confirmed the Sony support this statement. So it is possible DTS output via the ARC if this is broadcast by a television broadcaster directly such as SKY, but not when the playback via an external device takes place. This has license Legal Reasons loud support. Real pity that it has not even served with such a costly model for it.
Interim conclusion:
Right now I'm giving strong wondering about the device back. The main reason is the poor black level of especially the evening not to miss on the couch with a relaxing heel off and thus is permanently present. Unfortunately, the return in electric markets designed not as customer-friendly as Amazon.
