I have not seen the release of the double vinyl album, so I discovered this legendary concert on this double CD, remastered perfectly: a jewel! The Allman Brothers (Duane to slide guitar, who contributed so much to the great "Layla" from Clapton, and Gregg on vocals and keyboards) produced for 10 years a southern rock very influenced by the blues. Their reputation is based on long instrumental, long improvisations, as evidenced by "You do not love me" Boogie 19 minutes, or ripping "whiping post" 23 minutes, or "Mountain Jam" 33 minutes. .. Their version of "Statesboro Blues" is almost final, and "Stormy monday" is a beauty, a sadness to cry. Their talent lies in the way the instruments to conjugate, to cross the notes, solos, in a disconcerting fluidity and harmony, supported by a rhythm (bass and 2 batteries) sharp and creative without ceasing. It's a treat to focus solely on the game of those three. Often compared to Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Allman brothers hundred cubits above when it comes to knitting pure notes, crystal clear where Skynyrd gave a grimy rock and unadorned (but extremely effective, certainly!) Failure Allman lies precisely in their quality: they make a little too much sometimes. "Whiping post" stretches on too late, same for "Mountain Jam", they too learned how to finish. They need their 4 or 5 minutes to conclude, as it takes 15 kilometers an oil tanker to stop. The exercise in style sometimes turns round and loses in intensity. But all is of such consistency, such mastery, they placed the bar very high in the top of the best 70's live!
